CODE MONKEY AND NECROMANCER ANNOUNCE
NEW ARCANA UNEARTHED TIE-INS

Data Sets and New Modules Broaden Support for Variant Player’s Handbook

May 29, 2003 (Renton, Wash.)—Code Monkey Publishing and Necromancer Games have become Malhavoc Press’ newest partners in releasing support products for Monte Cook’s Arcana Unearthed: A Variant Player’s Handbook.

Code Monkey Publishing, creators of popular character generation software, will be releasing official data sets for the book in formats compatible with its major systems starting in August. Necromancer Games, publishers of best-selling d20 modules and sourcebooks including the Rappan Athuk series and Tome of Horrors, has two tie-in adventures in the works for release this fall.

“I’m extremely pleased that talented producers are stepping up to help support Arcana Unearthed with quality products,” said Malhavoc’s cofounder Monte Cook. “It gratifies me to see that players of Arcana Unearthed will be lacking in nothing—now, in addition to a DM’s screen, miniatures, and counters, we also have computer support and a variety of adventures.”

“Code Monkey Publishing is very excited that we have worked out a deal with Monte to convert his Arcana Unearthed book into data sets for the character generation software community,” said W. Robert Reed III, Code Monkey’s cofounder. “We are definitely looking forward to working with Malhavoc Press on other books in the Arcana Unearthed line!”

Clark Peterson, president of Necromancer Games, said, “It is a pleasure to work with Malhavoc to provide modules to support Arcana Unearthed. Necromancer's slogan is ‘Third edition rules, first edition feel.’ No one has the ‘Third Edition Rules’ part down better than Monte. Our modules will add that ‘First Edition’ spice!”

Other Arcana Unearthed partners include Mystic Eye Games, with the introductory adventure Siege on Ebonring Keep; Fiery Dragon Productions, with the adventure Plague of Dreams and Counter Collection IV: World of the Diamond Throne; and Iron Wind Metals, with the official miniatures line debuting in August.

These products will follow the release of Monte Cook’s Arcana Unearthed: A Variant Player’s Handbook in August. On the heels of this launch, Malhavoc Press offers a 32-page Arcana Unearthed DM’s Screen and Player’s Guide, as well as a 96-page supporting sourcebook, The Diamond Throne, which focuses on the handbook’s setting and some of its unique denizens.

Monte Cook’s Arcana Unearthed: A Variant Player’s Handbook offers a collection of new classes, feats, spells, equipment, variant rules, and optional systems that you can integrate into your d20 roleplaying games or use as a stand-alone open-gaming system. This 256-page hardcover is suitable for characters of all levels and any fantasy campaign. It will be available in a print edition from Malhavoc Press’ publisher, Sword & Sorcery™. Read about the book’s development in Monte’s ongoing Design Diary at the Malhavoc Press website.

Code Monkey Publishing, LLC, was founded in 2002 by Bryan McRoberts, Jason Buchanan, and W. Robert Reed III. The company, which creates roleplaying game materials and related software, boasts more than 200 years of total coding experience and over 150 years of gaming experience. Necromancer Games shot onto the scene in 2000 with one of the very first d20 titles, Crucible of Freya. Founders Clark Peterson and Bill Webb are committed to publishing modules and sourcebooks that hearken back to the good old days of fantasy roleplaying. Their high-quality d20 System products for use with Third Edition have a “classic” First Edition feel. Visit their website at www.necromancergames.com.

Monte Cook, co-creator of the new edition of Dungeons & Dragons (the basis of the d20 System of roleplaying), also penned the Dungeon Master's Guide and many other books for TSR/Wizards of the Coast. He launched Malhavoc Press in May 2001 with the publication of the bestselling Book of Eldritch Might, which won three EN World d20 System Awards for excellence. Hallmarks of Malhavoc Press and Monte's game design include unusual magic, monsters, and evocative game elements that go beyond traditional fantasy, as well as a mastery of the d20 System rules that only one of the game's original designers can offer. Current Malhavoc Press titles are available in electronic format at www.montecook.com, along with free samples of Monte’s recent game design.

A very important question, will this be a free download, or will this have to be purchased? If purchased, how much wil it cost (aprox.)?

Welcome to the AU family, now do we need to send our info to all so we are the most consistent group of publishers---EVER!!!!!
;)

Inter-related adventures.

Oops -- Sorry Hal. Forgot to tell you. We re-wrote our adventure so that it takes place in the Ebonring Keep. We've also written the keep slightly different than your take-- it's now a larger tavern, in fact it's the LARGEST TAVERN EVER!

Yes, that's right. Plague of Dreams is an adventure about surviving the morning after the party... There is enjoyment to be found in the Ebonring Tavern, but will your characters survive when it's time to pay the price?

Also, at the end of our adventure, the Ebonring Keep is destroyed. Or teleported into another dimension. Or something, we don't really specify.

And then the Blue Knight shows up.

Hope it's not too late for you to re-work some of your area descriptions so that we're sympatico? :)

:) :) :) :) :)

That is so funny you mentioned that because we are placing our adventure in your town and having it revolve around there. It is about a terrible mystery that is uncovered when the PC realize that all adventuring is is a bunch of "random" encounters and that they are just puppets to "the Master". It has them think outside of the box and will reward them with hours of wasted time with NO experience for the PC's we think it will be big, real BIG.

So no worries James we got your back!

Wow. I'm looking forward to seeing Necromancer's AU stuff. The merging of their first edition feel with the new AU milieu should be something else, indeed!

I agree. I've made it no secret that the real reason I love the OGL/d20 is because of all the different takes on things--all the different creative minds taking things in new and cool ways. So I'm excited to see all of these companies' products, to see what they do with the material.
