I've just recently discovered this game, and ordered a copy off Amazon. Anyway, I've been spreading far and wide on various forums, gleaning any info anyone has about this game. I know it went out of print shortly after it was born, but there is literally no info about the game, its company (Gold Leaf Games), or its creator, Gary Pratt, that isn't four years old. The whole topic is like an internet black hole.

I know Gary Pratt used to post here, so does anyone know what he's up to these days--where he is, what he's working on? Are there any copies of the elusive free PDF of the game floating around? It's so aggravating trying to find info on this! Help a brother out!

Sorry. All I know about this game is that they were giving away free copies of it at Gen Con a few years back. That's all the info I have. :erm:

Gary Pratt lived in Kansas (Lawrence, IIRC) when he published the game. I have no idea what he's doing currently or where he is now.

The game itself is diceless, designed to be played over IRC, and posits characters in two different ages of a fantasy world that are both tied to each other and to our own Earth by way of a fictional MMORPG (how all of this came to be is never explained clearly, though the concept is still neat).

Gold Leaf Games did offer a free PDF of the full game for download at one time, though I don't think that the game ever received any printed support past the main rule book. I personally think this is bit of a shame, given the number of awards that the game was (rightfully) nominated for. I got the impression that it simply didn't sell very well, perhaps because it didn't use dice.

Getting gamers to buy diceless RPGs has long been a hurdle for many publishers, and I can't think of any diceless RPGs that were runaway hits while they were still in print (that said Amber, Castle Falkenstein, and Theatrix all developed cult-like followings after the original publishers of those games closed their doors).

Thanks for the info. I recently bought a used copy off of Amazon (at a double markup) that just arrived today. I've been absorbing the book for a couple hours, and I really, really like it. I'm trying on a few other forums to canvass enough people to get a game started up, so if anyone's interested, please reply. Also, jdrakeh, you don't happen to have a copy of that PDF, do you? If I can't get ahold of that, I'm just gonna start typing up stuff from the book for my players.

Hrm, it only has the first 100 pages, it seems. Ah well, the character sheets are what's most important. Thanks :)

Hmm. . . the PDF I sent has all 316 pages (confirmed). I'm re-sending another copy of the file in a ZIP archive. Make sure that you wait for the entire 4.22 MB attachment to download and unzip before you attempt opening it. Also, you may need to use Acrobat Reader 6.0 or higher to display the file correctly.
