Code rage and a Haiku (was A Hivemind on it's own is a terrible thing to taste

On a less poetic subject - I'm using the lull in hive-mind activity to try and get my page up and running. Still hitting a rather big and nasty wall in terms of HTML and general netweeniness.

Any out there figure they can simply explain how to get a HTML document that works on the computer up and onto the net?

C'mon, give a frustrated Pokerwink a hand when you arrive.

Hmm, as far as I understand it, if you used a HTML editor, there should be some sort of upload programm along with it that you have to use... otherwise, I can't help you much there. Sorry about that :(

(Is your first post supposed to be a haiku?)

Yeah. Upload editor hates me unfortunately.

The first one's supposed to be a hiaku. Then I realised that international pronunciations of Australian pretty well insert their own amount of sylables.

I guess you'll have to wait for someone knowing more about this, then. Maybe you should change the thread title a bit to show your problem?

And thanks for the clarification. :)

1) What editor are you using?

2) What protocol are you using to transfer files? FTP should work fine; it's what I use to upload my pages.

3) Have you set the permissions correctly on the server? If it's a Unix box, you need to make sure the files can be read by everyone, not just you.

Frontpage

A program called FTP navigator.

The other end is a linux box, which I know exactly squat about. It belongs to some friends of mine and I've sent of an e-mail, but I figured I'd make sure it wasn't something I was doing before handing the problem over to them.

Right. Typically, on a Unix/Linux box, your web pages will be stored in a "public_html" directory under your home directory. Thus if ~ is your home, you need to copy your pages to ~/public_html, not anywhere else.

Second, you need to make sure those pages have the correct permissions. With luck, your account will have been setup so this is handled automatically.

I've got everything into the public_html directory (or had, have gone through this six or seven times tonight).

Is there anything I need to be doing in terms of permission, or is it entirely on their end?

If you have shell access, you can set permissions yourself. Can you telnet to the box?
