Codex Anathema changed to... Lords of Madness?

I know, thats why I refreshed. I do work in web security, in a group called Web Hacking, Attack and Penetration.(WHAP) I had better be able to recognise when somthing was just in a cache file.... I was talking about the whole chage the name change the image routine. I think it might have offended someone... maybe...(?).

It sounds like the name change heralds a heavy focus on Eberron in the book, with the Quori being the titular 'Lords of Madness'. Not that this is a huge surprise I guess, but I hope the book isn't too narrowly setting-focused. I was thinking of picking it up to flesh out the minions of Elemuar (10 points if you recognise the name!)

I'd actually say that the name was changed because Codex Anathema isn't indicative of what's in the book, whereas Lords of Madness immediately made me think of mind flayers and the daelkyr from Eberron.

It took me a moment to remember just what the Codex Anathema was; Lords of Madness quickly gave me an idea of what's in it.

Even those who know what anathema means won't necessarily know what it's about in the context of a title. Fiends would work. Undead would work. Sure, both have already received their own Wizards treatment, but the point is, Codex Anathema is still a bit vague. Lords of Madness is more specific.

Of course, I still prefer Codex Anathema.

Just to nit pick, the Quori != "lords of madness", that'd be the Daelkyr, see as how they rule over the plane of madness and create almost all aberrations in the setting.

Codex Anathema was a good name, IMO, but the cover art was just ugly.

I too am unpleasantly surprised by the name change - I liked Codex Anathema. Lords of Madness is not bad, but Codex Anathema was better.

Well, I liked the old title better even if it didn't entirely fit (volume of the cursed/damned), plus the gearing of various volumes in the Core line towards the Eberron setting irks me at least a little bit. In the MMIII I didn't want all those "creature name in Eberron, creature name in Forgotten Realms" wastes of space. Not that I don't like Eberron, I just think it should have its place like FR outside of the Core books.

Lords of Madness evokes no image of aberrations to me, it evokes images of all kinds of other stuff however. People who are reckless and fanatic, plunging in folly with a cacophonic laugh. Poor choice in my opinion.

I liked that the monster books had "book" names... Codex Madness... wait, what's Greek for insanity?

Actually Codex is derived from latin caudex.

It's a real pity, it feels like the tags on Superman costumes which say that the costume doesn't give you the ability to fly.
