Cohort equipment

What would you assume the wealth for an NPC cohort is? Both in terms of a newly attracted cohort and for figuring treasure rewards for adventures?

Part of me thinks a new cohort should bring normal NPC wealth to the table and no additional wealth is added to adventure calculations because the Leadership feat essentially marks the NPC as an extension of the PC. On the other hand, it seems like the PC has already invested a feat on the cohort, why should should there be additional, ongoinge costs?

Do you calculate extra wealth or treasure options for a Wizard and their Familiar? How about a Druid and their Animal Companion? In essence a Cohort is little different.

I personally do not account for the Cohort in treasure, the Cohort usually seems to be the recipient of the party's hand me downs.

IMHO, the cohort himself is enough benefit (or rather, is already too much benefit for a mere feat ... but I like them).

IMC, the PCs equip their cohorts using their own wealth, and the hand-wave is that getting such posh kit is part of why the cohort showed up in the first place.

Per the leadership rules, a cohort starts equipped as an NPC of their level (see the chart in the DMG). Any future equipment gain depends on how your party plans on handling the cohort situation. The DMG suggests a half share of loot. If you have particularly stingy party members, this may be an issue though if they perceive it as you (the player) getting more 'stuff' than them.

These sorts of issues should be talked about with the other players prior to ever taking the feat, before anyone is personally invested in the outcome.
