Turns out, one of the neighbors ended up figuring out (somehow) that he was a salesman for one of those home alarm systems. And either he was waiting to see when people would be home so he could knock on the door. I deduced that maybe he was actually trying to scare people into buying a home alarm system!

Or waiting to break into a couple of homes, then show up and try and sell all the neighbors an alarm system. I actually did hear about someone convicted of doing this around here some time back.
