Coincidence?

Russell Morrissey:
What would you do if you weren't a game designer?

Monte Cook:
Well, I was almost a history teacher. And I was almost an ad copywriter. I suppose if game designing suddenly went away I'd pursue the fiction end of writing more aggressively (I've written two novels and a number of short stories and would like to write more).
In some parallel universe, however, Monte Cook went on to get his doctorate in psychology and went into sleep research. I find sleep and dreams very fascinating. But in this universe, Monte Cook was only able to channel that interest into one of the adventures in d20 Call of Cthulhu rather than full-fledged research.

Planewalker Network:
First of all, tell us a bit about yourself. What do you do in the real world?

Kevin Kulp:
When I’m not doing game design, I’m an industrial fatigue and alertness consultant for companies working night shifts. In other words, I’m a sleep expert. If a company like a power plant or a widget manufacturer runs night shifts, I come in and tell them how to help the employees *not* fall asleep on the job at 3 am. I also do a lot of seminars on shiftwork, focusing on how to design shift schedules that are easier to work.

I dream rarely. When I do, they are invariably stressed related and weird. Such as being chased by a giant asparagus or something.

Nightmares all the time for me -- probably 2/3 of the dreams I remember.

Ranging from simple ones (a wasp buzzing about my head finally stings me on the forehead) to medium ones (I am with people outside at dusk, and we see what we think are fireworks, then begin wailing as we realize taht they are falling nuclear warheads) to epic ones (I am standing on the beach with friends when the Murderer rides up on horseback and kidnaps a young woman; we, powerless, watch him ride off with her; then she slips from his back and begins running down the beach, and I know that she is the Running Woman, and that she will pass into legend, and that some nights if you go out to the beach you will see her footprints left in the sand, still filled with her blood). The last category I write into stories and sonnets.

Honestly, they keep me entertained, once I wake up.

Except for the really bad ones. Those I don't talk about.

So, PC is actually a version of Monte from another reality?

No, but both Monte and PC are children of Scott Summers and Jean Grey from alternate universes...

Ye, gods, am I an 80's comic-book geek :)

Let's see... Monte Cook...

Kevin Kulp...

hmm...

Ye Gods! You don't suppose... that...

..they're... unlrelated... to one another.... in ... any way?...

Nah! There's got to be a better explanation!

Cthulhu must be involved! :)
