Collapsing Volcano could trigger Tidal Wave

I find it funny that whenever I see one of the shows on Discovery and the like on such things they always have someone bemoaning the fact that there are more people working at a McDonalds than watching the skies for killer asteroids, as if it makes any difference.

While it is true that we don't need as many people watching the skies for asteroids as we do food services drones, at this point it might well make a difference. Our technology is such that, with early sighting, we might change the outcome.

Although our chances at spotting an asteroid in time to do anything about it, even with 10x the manpower currently doing so, are still pretty darn small. The Mars Mystery by Graham Hancock was an interesting book I read recently that touched on the subject.

In fact, it was a good book all around. I expected some really weirdo conspiracy theory new age nutcase face on Mars kinda diatribe, and what I actually got was a fairly well-reasoned and sensible book.
