Colonial Marines? (as in the ones from Aliens)

I'm not sure if anyone's ever considered playing an Aliens themed D&D game, but the concept dawned on me when I finally finished KOTOR 2. Would one give a Colonial Marine the attributes of a ranged fighter, or a melee combatant? I would think ranged, but the Marines could, hypothetically, use hand to hand weapons...and I wonder how introducing Hicks, Hudson, Vasquez, Apone, and Ripley into a normal D&D campaign would fair (I guess the weapons like the Pulse Rifle, Smartgun, etc, would have to be toned down signifigantly).
Just the .02 cents of another forum noob. :\

Aliens in DnD

It would be easier to do a DnD themed Aliens game :)

There are a couple D20 Alien Sourcebooks on the web. Modern combatants are much more diversified and don't fit neatly into the DnD segregation of classes.

You could then use 'normal' NPC's and monsters for the bad guys.

There are aliens d20 books? I haven't heard of them, argh. But as NPC's in an Aliens game wouldn't be as fun...unless one's PC was like the Master Chief or something. Then they'd only be good for big, meaty shields.
(and btw, has someone ever tried making a d20 Master Chief?)
