Color of classic fiends... ARG!

DungeonMaster

First Post
I can't for the life of me find any reference to the color (skin, horns, etc...) of these classic fiends in ANY of my 1E/2E/3E books:

Barbazu
Hamatula
Cornugon
Gelugon

!
Any help would be much appreciated, particularly if you can reference it.

Barbed devil/Hamatula has a color picture in the 1e product monster cards set 1 http://paizo.com/store/downloads/wizardsOfTheCoast/aDAndD1/accessories/v5748btpy7mbb

You might also check out the Planescape Monstrous Compendium, as they were in color I believe. http://paizo.com/store/downloads/wizardsOfTheCoast/aDAndD2/planescape/v5748btpy7mnr

From the 3.5 MM:

Gelugon, he's the white insect devil in the center, and I think the one on the left is a barbed devil http://www.wizards.com/dnd/images/MM35_gallery/MM35_PG51.jpg

Bearded devil/Barbazu is on the left and I believe a cornugon horned devil is in the center http://www.wizards.com/dnd/images/MM35_gallery/MM35_PG52.jpg

Thanks Voadam! Sadly I was looking for a description of their color in words... I guess I'm going to have to simply go with the artwork. Kind of odd, through 3 editions of the game I can't find a description in words of their color!

They were whatever color the DM said they were. The need to classify the details of all the creatures (including their ecology and history) didn't really creep in until the end of the AD&D era, and wasn't full force until the middle of the 2E era.

In fact, I think a number of creatures in the MM & FF only had common descriptions because of the B&W are in the books.

Other sources have the Cornugon with a sort of dull reddish color, mixed with some oranges and black [I'm thinking of some of the 2e images from the PSMC I, Planewalker's Handbook, and 'Fires of Dis']. But I can certainly see differences in color among even same rank Baatezu due to differences in what Lord of the 9 they serve, what Command under the Dark 8 they fall under, etc.

Plus the 3.5 Cornugon picture is just really spiffy.
