I've seen enough comments on the boards here that I'm starting to get really concerned about the culture clash between Colts fans and the Gen Con gamers.
I witnessed one Colt fan swearing at his kid in frustration at the Ram, because there were all these gamers taking up the tables. They expected to be able to get in and couldn't. But honestly, that's about the worst culture clash (if you can call it that) that I witnessed.
I heard one Gen Con person mention that the Colts fans were calling Gen Con fans "perverts." I'm not sure what prompted that reaction.
I've seen a whole bunch of very disturbing second-hand accounts about Colts fans putting down Gen Con attendees.
I had the opportunity to watch the Colts fans go by, and I saw one woman dressed in a completely pink Colts outfit. And it hit me:
Fanatical about game? Check. Dress up in costume to support game? Check. Congregate and pay good money to experience said game? Check.
Sports fans ARE gamers, just another variant.
Was it THAT much of a problem though? Some of the abusive behavior was just plain unacceptable, but I'm not sure what should be done about it.
Is this something that needs to be considered for Gen Con next year? Should Gen Con be scheduled at a different date to avoid this conflict?
