Combining NPC classes from DMG

Well I actually own UA so you don't need to post them, however owning more books than I can read immediately is not a good thing.

So is it possible to quickly run down their concepts ...

I know Divine Bard is the same as normal bard except he's ... well .. Divine :)

What about the cloistered cleric ... is that some sort of monk (in the medieval sense) or a cleric who has learnt his/her trade on their own?

And world a favoured soul represent a "natural" cleric who just "knows" things.

Divine Bard: in exchange for requiring a high Wisdom to cast spells, you gain a bunch of Cleric spells on your class spell list, and all your spells are Divine (no arcane spell failure, need a Divine Focus, etc.). You still cast spontaneously, and you still cast based off Charisma (for bonus spells and DC), but you also need a Wisdom equal to 10 + spell level to cast spells at all.

Cloistered Cleric: d6 HD, poor BAB. In exchange, they get a bonus Domain (Knowledge), 6 skill points/level, Lore (like Bardic Lore), and a bunch of Wizardly Divinations added to their spell list.

Man, those are both pretty darn sweet.

What about the fluff for cloistered cleric?

Is it like a monastery guy?

The Divine Bard might fit, just clarifying with the player what he meant by "followed mother's path".

And Favoured Soul ... would that be something of a better alternative?

Favoured soul is in Complete Divine. It's basically a divine sorcerer. Despite Kormyr's insistance that it is too powerful, I found it very weak and "meh". More importantly, I don't think it really meets the social skills you're looking for.

So far Divine Bard seems to fit, however the Arcane bit isn't there ... I might go with Arcane Bard who moves onto Priestly things.

Hmmm ... decisions decisions.

Would it be weird if he was an normal bard who then became a divine bard? Like Bard 1/Divine Bard 1

That's explicitly illegal -- you can't mix variants, just like you can't mix specialist wizard levels from different specialty schools.

However, there's nothing stopping you from just saying, "Hey Bard guy, go ahead and choose some Cleric spells to add to your list, and for each one you add, you also subtract one Bard spell from your class spell list."

You don't necessarily need to declare the guy's spells either Arcane or Divine -- just tell him to stick to Light armor and wave your hands when appropriate.

So perhaps his father was happy he learnt some arcane talent but then he disappointed him by following his mother ... either as a Divine Bard (he converted from normal to Divine - a redo of his 1st level before game starts for story flavouring) ... or he is ready to be initiated as a cleric (or favoured soul or other divine class).

Thanks for the help and the wall to bounce ideas off.

There is a feat that allows a bonus domain, both the power + spells, up to max level you can cast. Just over look the Bard as an arcane caster and take the feat. You would get one additional divine spell to know and cast each level, plus a divine power, and still be an arcane caster. You could even play off being a unique mix of the two, as Bardic music is neither arcane nor divine.

...which, as I already said above, is Arcane Devotee, and it doesn't give you the domain power, and it doesn't give you more spells to cast at a time, and it doesn't give any bonus spells known, it only adds to the spell list you can choose from.

All in all, modifying the spell list would work MUCH better for capturing the feel of the character than taking that feat.

I was actually refering to a different feat, one based on divine spell casters. I simply cannot remember the name and havn't had a chance to look it up. I did misspeak by saying it grants you an additional spell slot each day, but it was only a suggestion.
