Combining Skills and Needing More Skill Points

The problem with this combining skilla stuff is not just the sensibility but balance. Combining Hide/MS, Spot/Listen, etc. makes rogues able to do much more with their skill points, but it doesn't help less skilled characters.

Anybody can take ranks in Disable Device, it's just a cross-class skill for most of them. And the Search skill is used to find traps, not Disable Device- and the only way to find magic traps is to be a Rogue, and succeed on a Search check.

Errrmmm, ok. Maybe I totaly screwed that up.

I was thinking DD was non cross-class. I meant rogues were the only ones to find and remove magic traps (find with search, remove with dd). They do remove it with DD right? Or am I that far off?

My group has played with combined skills for some time. The first we hashed out was Hide+Mv Silently = Stealth.

Then Open Locks was subsumed into Disable Device. We've NOT combined Listen and Spot, BTW. Those seemed different enough.

Anyway: Look over in the House Rules forum. It's been done.
