Ultimate X-men (along with Ultimate Spider-Man and The Ultimates) takes place in Marvel's New Universe and has nothing to do with the reguler Marvel Universe.
Is this a "new universe", or theNew Universe, that at one point featured Star Brand, Justice, Nightmask, DP7, and Psi-Force?

It's a new universe that retells the stories of some of Marvels characters. We've seen Spider-Man, X-Men, the Avengers (The Ultimates) and a few other characters in the Ultimate universe.

I would love to see Marvel relaunch THE New Universe. I loved D.P.7 and Psi-Force. Unfortunatly it wasn't overly popular and I think Marvel wants to forget it happened.

Okay. Glad I didn't get my hopes up.

Me too. Heck, at the least, I'd like to see each series rereleased as a trade paperback or something similar, since years ago, I had to sell off my comics.

I know the feeling. I'd love to see them released as TPB's also. My original copies I lent to a friend and he disappeared with them. 2 or 3 years ago (when I had money to burn) I started trying to hunt down copies. Unfortunatly most of the ones I managed to get were in poor condition and nearly unreadable. *sigh*

Any one know if these are the same books from a decade or so ago, or are they something new using the same name?

I'm not quite sure what you mean. They are just softcover versions of the hardcover reprints that Marvel did. So, each volume covers the same issues the reprints did. Everything's the same (full color and slick pages) except the type of cover (and cheaper price that goes along with that).

Or are you confusing Marvel Masterworks with those Marvel Milestone one-shots that Marvel did a while back? Those books were reprints of the 1st issues of certain books. However, they were just that; one regular comic issue reprinted in regular comic book format. In other words, the Marvel Milestone Fantastic Four #1 was a normal-sized comic that reprinted just issue #1 of Fantastic Four.

On the other hand, the Marvel Masterwork Fantastic Four Vol. 1 reprints the first 10 (I think) issues of FF (and, of course, with a hard or soft cover depending on how much you want to spend).

Anyway, I'm assuming that all the series that were done as hardcovers will turn up again in softcover.

BTW, does anyone know where I can find a list of all of the original Marvel Masterworks titles? I'm curious if they've ever collected Tomb Of Dracula.

And they are much better than those black and white, newsprint collections that are out now. What are they called? "Essentials"? For
about the same price, you get better quality.

Hopefully, DC will follow suit and reprint their hardcover books in softcover.
