[Coming Soon] UNORTHODOX MODERN GOTHS

TheLe -> Sorry, but  ...

Is there any downside to having to choose a feat that grants +1 Wis or Cha at levels 1, 4, 7 and 10??? And a possible +20 (at 20th level) vs. mind-affecting/illusion abilities? And an effective "human skill point bonus"/extra Action Point? :uhoh:

To have this be even remotely balanced, these abilities would offer a +1 bonus vs. mind-affecting/illusion FX abilities and a +1 to either Wis or Cha-based skills. And that's being generous (since they become a no-brainer for goth Dedicated or Charismatic heroes). Or even better, just the save bonus, but at +3.

Thanks for the comments! Unorthodox Modern Goths is in the hands of the editor at the moment, and I will certainly forward your comments to him!

Thanks again!

Just a followup. I talked to the mechanics editor, James Spahn, and it turns out he made changes to the feats already. Final edits are not yet complete for this book, so we may see some additional changes before final release. But that's how the editing process goes.

In anycase, here is the (new) current text for those feats:
[imager]http://www.thele.com/thelegames/images/tn/UnorthodoxModernGoths_tn200w.jpg[/imager]------------------------------------
Feat: Depression [Initial]
You focus on the negative aspects of life, surrounding yourself with dark emotions. Your nihilistic perception of things allows you to see the truth in most situations, even when others would be comforted by a lie.
Requirement: Goth hero 1st level
Benefit: You gain a bonus to Will saves against illusions equal to your Goth class level. Your Wisdom increases by 1 at 1st and 10th levels in the Goth basic class (this is in addition to the normal ability score increase a character earns every four levels).
Special: Once the player takes this feat, she may never take the Confidence feat.
------------------------------------
Feat: Confidence [Initial]
A confident attitude dominates your life. You are not afraid to take act where other Goths would hesitate or second-guess themselves.
Requirement: Goth hero 1st level
Benefit: You gain an extra Action Point each level. Your Charisma increases by 1 at 1st and 10th levels in the Goth basic class (this is in addition to the normal ability score increase a character earns every four levels).
Special: Once the player takes this feat, she may never take the Depression feat.
------------------------------------

Unorthodox Modern Goths will be available in January.

Better, TheLe, but I'd make the ability increase another feat, with prerequisites being either Confidence or Depression and 10 levels in the Goth base class. The benefit would be +2 to the appropriate ability. I'd leave the initial feats at just the bonus vs. illusions (I'd tone it down to +1 per two Goth levels, minimum +1) or the extra Action Point (which I could switch to the ability to roll an additional d6 whenever an Action Point is spent, and take the best result).

Hey folks. Unorthodox Modern Goths is in final production. we are still making some last minute tweaks, but things are looking very good. It is expected to be released this week! In the meantime, here's another sneak peek:

Live Action Role Player (Advanced Class)

With both fashion and artistic expression being of great importance to the Goth subculture, it was only natural that they would embrace the hobby of live-action role-playing. This hobby allows them to dress in exotic clothing and take on personas that, though temporary, are larger than life. Some Goths seek to perfect this activity, believing LARPing to be an art unto itself. A rare few take it too far, and become swept up in their own fantasies – often becoming mad and deranged.

Select this class if you want a character who is skilled at changing his persona and discovering the truth in others.

The fastest path into this advanced class is from the Goth hero basic class, though other paths are possible.

Requirements:
To qualify to become a Live Action Role-Player, a character must fulfill the following criteria.
Skills: Bluff 6 ranks, Craft (fashion) 6 ranks, Perform (Acting) 6 ranks.

Class Information
The following information pertains to the Live Action Role-Player advanced class

Hit Die
The Live Action Role-Player gains 1d6 hit points per level. The character’s Constitution modifier applies.

Action Points
The Live Action Role-Player gains a number of action points equal to 7 + one-half her character level, rounded down, every time she attains a new level in this class.

Class Skills
The ’s class skills are as follows.
Bluff (Cha), Craft (fashion, writing) (Int), Disguise (Cha), Gather Information (Cha), Hide (Dex), Intimidate (Cha), Knowledge (arcane lore, art, current events, popular culture, theology and philosophy) (Int), Move Silently (Dex), Perform (act, dance, keyboards, percussion instruments, sing, stringed instruments, wind instruments) (Cha), Read/Write Language (none), and Speak Language (none).

Skill Points at Each Level: 7 + Int modifier

Mimic Talent: Basic (Ex): Live Action Role-Players are masters at appearing to be something that they are not, adepts at burying themselves in a persona. This level of study and dedication grants them bits and pieces of information and tiny slivers of talent that would otherwise be unavailable to them.

At 1st level the Live Action Role-Player may choose to temporarily gain the use and or benefit of any single Talent from any Ordinary Hero class in which she does not possess levels. This talent may not have any prerequisites. The Live Action Role-Player has temporary access to this talent for a number of hours equal to his class level.

The Live Action Role-Player may use the Mimic Talent ability a number of times per day equal to his Charisma modifier, but may not have more than one use of this ability active at once.

Unorthodox Modern Goths has its first review!

[imagel]http://www.thele.com/thelegames/images/html/stars/stars5.0.gif[/imagel]
"Unorthodox Modern Goths is a very interesting product. It approaches the subject matter with a keen mind for real-world Goths and turning them into something fun for your games, being humorous at times without being insulting. And with all this content, you really couldn't ask for anything more out of a class supplement. This reviewer enjoyed reading the PDF greatly, and I'll recommend it to anyone with an interest in the d20 Modern system. The Goth is a great, fun class with plenty of wonderful options presented right alongside. Break out the black candles and the London After Midnight CD!" (Full Review)

Simply Awesome. Congrats to everyone who was involved in this project!

Is there a difference between LARPers and Boffers?

[imager]http://www.thealmightyguru.com/Boffer/Images/Pic-Battle.jpg[/imager]LARPers is for role playing.

Boffers is sword fighting with foam weapons, and is not really role-playing (see image to the right).
