[Coming Soon] UNORTHODOX MODERN GOTHS

I had some serious doubts about how this product would be received... looks like at least some of you will enjoy it!

And you didn't think to pimp this on the Hallowe'en Accidental Survivors? Shame on you.

BTW, giving NaNoWriMo a shot, eh? I figure we'll be seeing less of you around here until December.

[imager]http://www.thele.com/thelegames/images/tn/UnorthodoxModernGoths_tn200w.jpg[/imager] The Le Games (pronounced Tay Lee Games) is happy to announce a new product coming soon for the MODERN genre: Unorthodox Modern Goths!

The Goth Hero basic class represents a player character who is immersed in the Goth subculture.

OK, it is official, you are my hero. And by hero I mean nutball that makes me laugh, and by official I mean I disavow this statement.

:/

Gods no... I hope this product actually gives information about the scene and its history and doesn't delve into the stereotypical /"hot topic" version of what is goth.

I hope The Le Games also has a Rock-A-Billy, Punk, Hip-Hopproduct cause if they don't then I see no use in this product besides to trivialize the goth scene beyond the "Goth/Dark _____" holloween costumes.

Allow me to quote from the introduction:

Unorthodox Modern Goths introduction said:
The book you are about to read, Unorthodox Modern Goths, is exactly what it says: a collection of unorthodox game mechanics meant to bring fun new and interesting fun to your modern d20 games. It isn't intended to be a realistic representation of the goth subculture or teenagers. The inspiration for the classes, feats, and magic items you will find within come primarily from my limited exposure to goths and my high school experiences. None of the following is intended to offend, because none of it is written about you or anyone else.

It's not a "genre cash-in", nor is it a "true representation" (which, frankly, you can go ahoead and write if you think it would actually add something to the game). It's imaginative new game mechanics loosely based on the goth concept.

UNORTHODOX MODERN GOTHS is not intended to be a historical retrospect of the Goth Genre by any means. Nor is it supposed to demonize the culture.

This book is essentially one look on the culture and focuses on certain features of it. More importantly, it takes certain aspects of it and translates it into game mechanics for d20 Modern. Some things you will find true, like emphasis on music. While others simply have no bearing on the real world, like the ability to speak with the dead, or the ability to gain +1 Action Point per level. Yes, there will be some stereotypes, but as I said, the book is not supposed to be a historical lesson in Goth culture.

[imager]http://www.thele.com/TheLeGames/images/tn/U.Modern.Cheerleader_tn200w.jpg[/imager]Remember, this is a game book designed to be used for a game system. As such, there are liberties that need to be made.

In the end it comes down to this: having fun. Much like UNORTHODOX MODERN CHEERLEADERS, this book is aiming towards the game crowd that wants to spice up their Modern game with something more interesting than the smart hero or the fast hero.

It's all going to be just fine. Really.

But does it include rules to take on the powers of Siouxie Sioux or Peter Murphy of Bauhaus? Something like "Call on Gothfather or Gothmother" that gives you either Siouxie's killer eye makeup or Peter's shoulder-shimmy of doom!
(and if you are/were not a real Goth you have no idea what I'm talking about) ;)

Do not take the name of Siouxsie in vain... :]

Sneak Peek #2

[imager]http://www.thele.com/thelegames/images/tn/UnorthodoxModernGoths_tn200w.jpg[/imager]Hey folks, I just wanted to let you know that Unorthodox Modern Goths is coming along very well. It will be released in January. Furthermore, the author list is being updated. The core authors for this book are James Spahn, and The Le, with editing credits going to the latter two.

In anycase, here's a another sneak peek at Unorthodox Modern Goths:
-----------------------------------------------------------
Word of Pain (Sp):
By 3rd level, the Goth Hero has studied many manuscripts on the afterlife, and has delved into many of its secrets. One such secret is a word of power, which can be used to hurt a living being. As a standard action, the Goth simply whispers the Word of Pain into her opponent’s ear. By doing this, the Goth deals damage to her opponent equal to 1d4 + half her Goth level; Will save for half damage (DC 13 + the Goth’s level). When the Goth Hero has reached 8th level, this damage increases to 2d4 + her full Goth level. Note that this ability has no effect on undead creatures. A Goth must spend an Action Point to use this ability.

Word of Healing (Sp):
By 8th level, the Goth Hero has delved into more mysteries of the afterlife, and has found the ability to regenerate from wounds. As such, she has learned a word of power to heal any living being. Once per day as a standard action, the Goth simply whispers the word and she will be healed a number of hit points equal to her level. Alternatively, she may whisper this word into the ear of another being to heal it of the same amount. Note that this powerful word will harm any undead creature rather than heal them. Regardless of the reasons for using the ability, and it may only be done once per day. A Goth must spend an Action Point to use this ability.
-----------------------------------------------------------

The Unorthodox Modern Goth also has 3 different talent trees to choose from called Goth Fashion and Dark Focus. I'll post some of those as part of another sneak peek in a few weeks.
