Command: Die

Sejs said:
Nope. Command: Die is an idea as old as the spell itself. Since 1e, the answer is and always has been, they keel over as if dead for one round, then the magic wears off and they get back up.
Exactly. I believe that "Die!" was in fact probably the most often used version of the spell back then...

Command: Dance! - 1 round of Otto's, coming up
Command: Striptease(Hmm, six seconds later, pants round his ankles...) - also a noun, so no good
Command: Eat - fair enough, just hope it doesn't eat YOU
Command: Drink(Is that a potion of Enlarge or are you happy to see me?) - again, nice
Command: Urinate(Done that.) - ugh, nasty, but permissable
Command: Steal (WHat? From whom) - steal, or steel? Unfortunately it's verbal, not written
Command: Mutilate (Eeeee) - again, hopefully not YOU
Command: Open (Hey Ogre, see that door...) - way too ambiguous
Command: Flee! (One-round run action!) - as with steal, flee or flea?

A lot of Commands come down to the What test. If the subject would have to think "Command X what?" then it doesn't really fly.

So to use the examples provided -
Command: Dance. Sounds good to me. One round of get up, a- get get a- get down coming right up.

Command: Striptease (or Disrobe). Works, depending on how much they can take off in six seconds. Worked better when rounds were a minute long.

Command: Eat. Eat what? If they had some food in hand, it becomes more plausable. Same goes for Command: Drink.

Command: Urinate (or Defecate). I don't know about anyone else, but I can't make myself go on a moment's notice. That's not to say the target won't spend their round trying to make the magic happen, but it's not a sure-fire mess maker.

Command: Steal. Steal what?

Command: Mutilate. Mutilate what?

Command: Open. Bad command or file name. Err, I mean open what?

Command: Flee (or Run). Sounds dandy. Take off at top speed for a round, either directly away or in the direction the target's facing.

PC Cleric: /Command: "Clap"
That's beautiful. Goes up with there "Hope" as one of the truly lovely uses of the spell.

Nah, there was context that made it very plausable.

It's in one of the Defenders of Daybreak stories. Maybe Demigod's Tutor, I can't remember at this point.

Command: Unload.
Command: Disarm.
Command: Defrock. ( To a cleric... )
Command: Boogie. ( and play that funky music 'til you die )
Command: Stumble. ( For those fights near cliffs. )
Command: Procrastinate. ( Or maybe wait a while... )
Command: Prostrate. ( and Kneel before Zod! )
Command: Blaspheme. ( Say bad things about your god, priest boy... )
Command: Rut. ( Get some of that... )

Depending upon your DM and the situation, fun may also be had with:

Command: giggle
Command: laugh
Command: blink
Command: yell
Command: flee
Command: run
Command: cower
Command: choke
Command: flip
Command: tumble
Command: relax
Command: kick
Command: twirl
Command: stretch
Command: duck
Command: dodge
Command: sing
Command: yodel
Command: charge
Command: (a short, colloquial anglo-saxon word for human intercourse)

Face it- this spell is the #1 reason this game gives you to improve your vocabulary!
