Community Opinion on pdf sales

- I want both b/w and color versions
- b/w version should be stripped down and lack margin art and espescially lack "page texture" art - those things just eat ink
- I'd pay $5 to have it now and would probably not buy something if I had to wait. I'm doing this online, dammit, and I'm a child of convienence
- Art / full color photos, etc. are nice
- Cut/paste options are nice, but not mandatory

I hadn't thought of the landscape idea but color me in agreement with that as well. Screen formatted. Bueno.

Color vs. B/W shouldn't be a problem. Most color printers can be turned to B/W with just a few clicks. Just make sure that it is viewable when printed in B/W.

It should be possible to script into the pdf file that when you push a button certain elements should not be printed/displayed, i'm still looking at how to do that. The simplest solution would be to offer multiple versions of the same document with the option to the downloader wich version to download. (Those that download the text only version should not pay less, that would undermine the product and your ability to publish the next).

Deactivating the Art

The push button to suppress art thing in a PDF can be done and it's not terribly difficult (I did it for Bodies and Souls), but it's pretty clunky and could be particularly difficult for complex layouts with text flowing through an illustration.

Ideally Acrobat would be able to "remember" the layers that you use in your layout program then you could press a button to deactivate a layer or deactivate one layer and activate another. If we had that capability we could accomplish some pretty nifty tricks with electronic products. Not now though; perhaps in Acrobat 6.0.....
