Companion Characters as PCs

Would you add PHB archer ranger to that list?
I would if the Hunter didn't exist. But the two archer ranger variants are more or less in the same character concept space, and the Hunter ranger manages to be simultaneously IMO slightly less fiddly, a lot fluffier, and to provide forced movement - which is always fun when you see an opportunity and lets the player engage with more of the game.

I'm thinking about seeing if I can do up 3 or 4 pregen Essentials PCs in one-page 'monster' format, but using full PC rules - thinking Elementalist Sorceror, a Knight and a Slayer might be good, possibly also a Hunter. There's an Archer Ranger already in the group.

The character builder sheets are basically horrible for new players, but that's because the CB needs to cover every type of character.

I can lay out all the important information on a single sheet of paper, with powers sorted by Standard, Move, Minor and Triggered (as necessary) and it makes it much, much easier for the new player to work out what's going on.

I've introduced a lot of players to D&D through the Encounters program, and I prefer to have my sheets than the CB sheets - but I don't always have the option.

Cheers!

Now there's an idea. Ignoring the PC character sheet generator and instead using a monster-style statblock for character abilities broken down by type of action.
