Complete Arcane (10 reasons)

Is he being paid?

Is it just me, or does MerricB's constant overheated overhyped praise of everything WOTC-related begin to grate on your nerves after a while?

I often get the feeling that if a WOTC designer were to secretly lay a nice bunch of roses upon Merric's pillow one evening, Merric would wake in the morning, view the flowers (and know its origin immediately, being familiar with the smell), and get all excited that a real WOTC designer wanted his input regarding a new variety of scent.

Or, maybe I'm just cantankerous this morning.

IMO, the current WotC treatment of the bard is horribly narrow, and I don't expect CA to change that. FFG's Path of Magic is the only book that I have seen that even comes close to doing what needs to be done to the bard.

Does anyone else smell moderators... ;)

It's not too nice to suggest someone is on someone's payroll, especially in an industry that is well known for its poor pay rate.

I think Merric is just a guy that knows what he likes. I often don't agree with him, but I have seen worse (and no, I am not talking about Nightfall... while vocal, at least Nightfall would call a spade a spade, even if it had a Scarred Lands logo on it...)

Y'know, you could tone it down a bit. So, Merric doesn't have the same tastes as you do. So, he gets excited about new releases. I don't see how either of those are offensive enough to warrant your post.

If you want to play troll, I'd suggest not doing so by flatly insulting a well-regarded poster.

Edit: (Re: "well-respected") Not that it'd be okay to do it to anyone else, just that MerricB seems to be an odd person to single out for a rant.

It is precisely the kind of intelligently articulated enthusiasm that Merric exudes that keeps me interested in D&D and ENWorld. Do we want to have to second-guess responses to opinions we're tacitly invited to share, before we even post them?

Merric's take on WotC's material is helpful to me, because I do not have the luxury of being able to examine new books in a store, before I make a purchase. And his take is one of many unique insights that I come across in these fourms. Each one adds to my understanding of a new book's ideas and their execution and helps me to choose which to buy.

Two, whether you feel cantankerous or not that kind of language and offensive behaviour towards another poster is never appropriate.

I've edited your post. If you want to talk to me about this my email address is in the meta forum

*sniff, sniff* Yup, that does smell like moderator.

Come on kids, let's be nice. And this isn't about a "well-respected" poster, either. If Merric had said the same about someone else for whatever reason, we'd still have the gentle reminder that one should behave as if in Morrus' living room. Lively debate == good. Insinuating nastiness about other posters == not-so-good.

I for one am very grateful that you posted and entertained this thread Merric. My best friend and DM plays a Wizard in the game I DM, and I play a Sorceror in the game he DMs (we alternate). This book is greatly expected by us both.

This thread needs more data though... more data !

MORE DATA DAMMIT !

Shucks, I always look forward to one of Merric's informative and engaging threads on WotC topics. From what I've seen Merric is both honest and fair, never needless supportive of their products.

On Topic: I like to see the Sudden Metamagic Feats but hope they are tweaked a tad as the MiniHB versions were a little out of whack (Sudden Quicken Requiring 6! feats to qualify for, Sudden Empower and Sudden Maximize equal prereqs, etc.). I'm immensely disappointed that not a single metamagic feat will be original in the CA, on the other hand I'd enjoy seeing 3.5 updates of the feats. For new original spell-material and a desirable metamagic feat system, I may have to stick with monte and his spell templates and the UA Spontaneous Metamagic rules.

Hi-

I to enjoy Merric's posts, he obviously works hard to gather the info needed for us guy's to see a very cool preview of an upcoming WoTC product. Thanks Merric, you are apprecieated.

Now my next quetion:

What is wrong with the current Bard?
