Just yesterday I was looking to see where the Girallon first appeared (because I'm working on Barsoom monsters, and the Girallon is a six limbed white ape ). Now I know it originated with 3e I can stop wasting time searching through the earlier stuff.

Actually, Nanoc, D&D stats for the Barsoomian White Ape first appeared in White Dwarf #27 (p25), back in 1981. You can find a 3.5 update of that version here.
