I own a vrock-like mini from Reaper which is amazing...
Cyronax, you wouldn't happen to remember the name or number of that Reaper mini, would you? I'd like to check it out and maybe get one.

Yep its that exactly frankthedm.

its an awesome mini.

I remember the one time I used it.

I put it on the table and the players said: "So what does this fiend look like?" (I didn't pre-describe the monster like usual ....)

Me: "Like that .... roll initiative."

The looks on their faces was "concerned." The party duelist-fighter-dervish nearly was taken down ..... ah..... What a great combat, that was. The party prevailed through skill and creative use of their loot ..... D&D at its finest.

:)

Oof. These are pretty bad.

The only pack of D&D minis I bought was from the first run, and between the lousy sculpting and the red/yellow/blue sponge painting I swore to never pick up another pack again. Over the last year or so I would occasionally catch a glimpse of a mini that made me question that original vow, but man am I glad I didn't cave.

There are definitely a couple sculpts mixed in there that are what I would have hoped for from the entire set, like the Howling Hag and Human Fighter. But then they share the same line as the Griffon, which doesn't even look like it had been finished before they cast it. Is there a way to find out which sculptors did which pieces?

Man, those paint jobs are painful. They honestly look like some random, talentless 12 year old's first attempt at painting minis. I've never really inspected them before, but are Heroclix paintjobs this sloppy? How do these stand up to the other pre-painted minis on the market?

Is the Vampire Spawn a mime?

I've pretty much collected these since the beginning. I remember Harbringer being rather bleah, but it was a first run. For the most part the sculpts and paintjobs have steadily improved with each set. But these last two sets, ugh.

I purchased a booster of Desert of Desolation anyways to give it a chance, wasn't terribly impressed. And the new Dungeons of Dread set is so...hideous...I'll be giving it a total pass.

Let's hope whatever the next set is improves, otherwise I'm content to stay with my older DDM figures bolstered with excellent Reaper sculpts.

Thanks, both of you. I'm definitely going to get one of these.

I just looked again at the DoD boosters I bought this weekend and, I have to say, I still stand by my premise that MANY of these figs look much better than the gallery or con photos that we've seen.

First, many people posting negative reviews have also stated that they've never been a fan or rarely bought boosters since the original Harbinger set. Simply put, these minis are not for everybody. I'm considered by many locally to be 'very good' minis painter, so believe me, I cringe when I see these slop-fest paint jobs... or minis that have two colors and no shading.

BUT... they're about what I expect and most of them are passable.

This set is really like the other's I've bought... hit and miss. On some, the sculpts are fantastic, but the paints suck. On a few, the paint is decent, but the sculpts are boring. Then, on both sides, there are a few minis that either suck or rock on both criteria.

Just looking now at the Dwarf Warlord... Damn good sculpt. The paint isn't horrible... but why does he have dark-gray skin? Still, the gallery photo doesn't do this mini justice. Let's be honest: in a front-view, 2D photograph, the PAINT makes the mini. Hold that same mini in your hand and you'll see that it's not half bad...

For a pre-painted, mass production, plastic mini :)

I agree. Reading the posts here had me a bit worried. But after opening my case today, I think they're on par with the other sets. I like 'em. Some are average some are really nice (I'm looking at you Dire Wolf). Overall, I'm quite pleased with this set.

I'm thinking that Dwarves become more stone-like as the gain experience.

And yeah, the human fighter is great. He looks... cunning and capable.
