Complete Mage ToC

So the Wu Jen did not, as you stated, use up a third of the CA book. Instead it seems to have used up a third of the spell-section of the book - and so a mere 7% of the total book.

Yes, a third of the spell list. And even accepting 7% as an accurate figure--what's that, like 10 pages?--that's still way too much for a niche class that, at the end of the day, is pretty unnecessary. Samurai and ninja as their own classes I can live with, but making a class just to be "a wizard that's not a wizard" is pointless in the extreme.

I'm happy to see a large number of varient class features. Hopefully many of them will replace the familiar which no one in our group ever uses anyway.

I've seen the ones in the latest Dragon but I want more options than just two.

Not sure if anybody else posted this, but there is a familiar-less class feature for specialist wizards in the phb2.

Thanks,
Rich

I'm curious about the Fey Heritage feats.

I'd like to see Heritage feats that applied to warlocks.

And I wonder if any PrClass or feat will allow for the wizard on the cover, who has two weasel familiars.

Impresive feat selection, but i do suspect they are again trying to make the mistake of allowing the Sorcerer to use the Quicken Metamagic Feat.

By 'mistake', you mean 'needed boon'? But I won't get into this. I think everything about the metamagic restriction there, from flavor to mechanics, is bunk.

I can't access the ToC from my current location - is there any love for Vancian casters? Or do they just get more pushed even further to the sidelines, ready for their dump in 4E?

Looking at Frank's post above, can't see anything specific, but willing to wager the new feats and PrCs give Vancian the royal screwjob yet again.

Yet Vancian arcane casters are still more versatile and more effective than their spontaneous counterparts, according to just about every comparative study I've seen done on these boards or the WoTC boards, particularly CO, where people know their stuff. Its fairly observable in play.

Also, I'm curious to see how you divined from the ToC that Vancian is getting 'the royal screwjob again' when there is most noticably a PrC devoted to specialist Wizards.

I really, really like those two sentences together. As in a fey warlock.

I was just thinking that I'd allow a cohort to be a second familiar. But, I agree, it'd be nice to see an official feat (mainly for PCs who change DMs or for messageboard discussions/questions that might involve said second familiar.

Fey Warlock = indeed!

I am making up a party to go through Red Hand of DOOOOOOOM, and the party's main caster is a Sidhe Archer (i.e., warlock, with the eldritch blast renamed as Sidhe arrow and looking like an energy bow... chausuble of fell power becomes a stringless bow, a la Hank).
