That's good news when Dragon Compendium 2 comes out in 2010. ;)

Yeah, what's up with that?

A near instant sell out that goes so quick that they can't put the errata into the second printing and yet no actual sequel?

There's been allusions to WotC having to approve more hardcovers. If you want Dungeon Compendium 1, Dragon Compendium 2, the Age of Worms hardcover and an Incursion hard copy, spam WotC.

Allusions nothing. They've come right out and said that they can't do jack without a team of WotC lawyers performing arcane rituals of permission. So yeah, if you want more Paizo hardcovers, go fill up the inboxes and mailboxes at WotC with letters so that they get off their butts and get around to letting Paizo print the stuff.

Yeah, ideally I'd have a rec room in which to game, where all my books and magazines could live. These days I'm lucky if I'm not in the basement of a university building, carrying all my books with me plus my laptop. Magazines tend to get shredded.

I can barely juggle all my game books. I'm not throwing dozens of Dragon magazines into the mix, sorry.
Besides, keeping track of what's in which magazine issue is a lot harder (for me at least) to keep track of.

. . .

I'm not quite sure that I can see where you're coming from here. Could you elaborate, please?

Uh, OK. Again, I'm not clear on how a book devoted primarily to the 'Vancian' spellcasting classes can go towards giving 'Vancian' "the royal [. . .]".

Anyone?

Yet Vancian arcane casters are still more versatile and more effective than their spontaneous counterparts, according to just about every comparative study I've seen done on these boards or the WoTC boards, particularly CO, where people know their stuff. Its fairly observable in play.

Also, I'm curious to see how you divined from the ToC that Vancian is getting 'the royal screwjob again' when there is most noticably a PrC devoted to specialist Wizards.
Am I the only who's noticed that basically every supplment WotC releases includes new spontaneous classes, but virtually zero Vancian classes? Same with PrCs - theres plenty that require ability to cast spontaneous spells, but none I can think of that required prepared spells, except those that are generic to both types of casting.

Maybe I'm overreacting, I dunno. I'll admit I did miss the section on specialist wizards. *shrugs*

There have been two I know of (HoH Archivist, CArc Wu Jen), but since there were either 7 or 15 prepared casters in the PHB (depending on how you want to count specialists), and since the non-Vancian casters in the PHB are rather crippled, I don't think many people are complaining.
