Computer Assisted Monster Generation

Near the end days of 3.5, I put together two monster books (and was preparing to work on a 3rd). I've been considering restatting the monster from these books (500+ monsters) for Pathfinder, and I think I would go insane doing it by hand (the 3.5 versions nearly did that to me).

Is anyone aware of a computerized version of a monster creator for Pathfinder that would ease restatting these creatures?

P.S.: if anyone is interested, the books are Bestiary Malfearous (on RPGNow) and Bestiary Nefarious (on Scribd)

I have used Herolab for creating new monsters, but I'm not sure that would fit the bill for you. You can build off existing SRD creatures so that simplifies it somewhat. For more unique creatures they have a pretty extensive editor that while it takes a bit to learn is fairly straight forward. It does format stat blocks of the monsters for copy/paste or printing.

If what you are looking for though is a straight automated conversion program, I'm not aware of any.

I think it wouldn't be too hard to do the conversion by hand -- probably even easier than 3.0 to 3.5 conversion. A lot probably depends if you used the "new style" 3.5 statblock that looks like the PF version; reformatting would probably be the worst part of conversion if you had to do that.

Skills is perhaps the trickiest part of the equation, as is figuring out where to put entries. I'm sure I'll get better with as I do more. However, I'd rather not do 500+ entries by hand. Anything that could help speed up the process would be a blessing.

This is what I used back in 3E - The Kencyclopedia Creature Creator.

Herolab might be what I'm looking for. I'll give that a try. :)

Do you have the 3.5E stats easily accessible? It might be possible to import it into a large excel sheet and do automatic calculations that way.

We use Herolab to perform the conversion to PFRPG in the monsters we do for the Monster Mash on the podcast, and I highly recommend Herolab for this purpose. In that regard, you will also need both Bestiary 1 and Bestiary 2 to have access to the scripts that are contained within those monster book add-ons in order to easily be able to edit the entries for your own monster conversions. Without the bestiaries, it's not terrible feasiable.

Total cost for Herolab+Pathfinder Core, Bestiary 1 and Bestiary 2 should be $55.00, It is, far and away, the best software tool for Pathfinder RPG and I recommend it highly. I would strongly consider adding the APG add-on to the above. Beyond that is entirely your call.

We interviewed the developer of Herolab and review the software on Episode 013 of the podcast. (link in my sig)

Paizo has an internal Excel file for creating/balancing monsters. I don't know if they share, but it wouldn't hurt to ask!

Thanks for the tip! If I can't get a copy, I do know enough programming I can hopefully put one together for myself (I did a V&V character sheet this way, which will randomly generate a character as well as track one).
