Computer game nostalgia thread

older games

wow.....

Lots of good games mentioned (and a few not).....

Wasteland
Ultima (2, 4, and 7 pt 1, pt 2 in particular)
Railroad Tycoon
Masters of Orion 2
Civlization
Eye of the Beholder
The Standing Stones (very old EA game)
Alternate Reality (The City and The Dungeon)
Zork
Questron

Many others I can't remember now. I used to spend hours behind my computer (still do, but playing EverQuest these days) playing games like these. Can still play some of them using emulators.

Good memories........

I had a Commodore 64 (and later 128 when the 64 blew out), and all I ever used it for was playing games. Eh, I think I had a primitive word processor on it that I used some, but really it was all about the games. I loved Zork and the otehr Infocom games that followed, and Ultima IV and then V kept me and a friend of mine occupied for months. When the 8-bit Nintendo came out, I sold my computer (it was severly outdated anyways) Ah, and I had a ton of game that I had never played all the way through...

Years later I finally got a "real" PC, a 486, and enjoyed a few games, but it wasn't til recently that I've played many computer games at all. (Playstation had filled my needs for a while) Now most recently, after coming off Dark Age of Camelot, and being really indifferent to NWN, I find I am enjoying the heck out of Trade Wars. Yeah, the old BBS game of the early 90's. I found a site that lets you play it.

Hmmm...

The ultima games... 6+ to be specific... (Hey, I'm not one of you old farts :) )

This (fairly cool) graphic adventure game done about Robin Hood... I think Sierra published it, not sure though. Was a ton of fun, anyhow.

Oregon Trail (Hey, it was all we had in school... it wasn't too bad for a while)

EGA Trek

Sword of Aragon (Best Fantasy Strategy game ever)

Might & Magic (1st + 2nd, rest of the series was blah)

Master of Magic (Better even than MOO & MOO2)

Pool Of Radiance, Curse Azure Bonds, Silver Blades, Pools of Darkness

Trade Wars 2002

Scott Adams games (can't even remember the titles anymore)

bunch of SSI games: Kampfgruppe, East Front, West Front, etc.

Warlords

Empire

A host of other games

Ultima 4 and 5
Bard's Tale 1, 2 and 3
Dragon Wars
Wasteland
The AD&D Gold Box games from SSI
Civilization 1 & 2
Quest for the RIngs (a game for the apple that came with a computerized magazine)
Lots of others that I can not remember the names of. ;)

I can't remember the name of this one, but it was a roleplaying game and the way you increased some of your skills was through training. One of the combat training bits involved blocking fireballs with a shield.

EDIT: I think I discovered the name of the above game. I think it was Legacy of the Ancients.

Let me second Star Contol {both 1 and 2}. Not only was Star Control 2 a blast to play, it was a blast to read. It had one of the best written stories in gaming, very nearly as funny as Douglas Adams {I'm thinking of story of how the Zot-Fot-Pik simultaneously invented the wheel, fire and a concept of the afterlife...}.

And does anyone remember Wizards's Crown by SSI for the old Atari computers? It had the best tactical combat engine in any CRPG, past or present. The Gold Box games used a vastly simplified version of it. Plus it has a killer random magic item generator.

I can't believe no one has mentioned Starcraft. God if I could only get that to run on my PC.

I still play XCom every now and then.

Man I feel old when people put starcraft into a computer game nostalgia thread.

...Perhaps because it probably shouldn't be listed as 'nostalgic' (in my opinion ;)) considering how immensely popular Starcraft still is to this day. It never really lost much steam and maintains a huge active player base. Not bad for a 5 year old RTS.
