This refers to max hit points, not current. If I have taken 49 of 50 damage and my max hit points drops to 30, I will still have taken 49 damage, and be dead. My max hit points can't drop below my level as the quote says, but all damage applies no matter my current max, anyhting else would mean that con drain could heal you if you were damaged enough, which makes no sense. If a character’s Constitution score drops, then he loses 1 hit point per Hit Die for every point by which his Constitution modifier drops. A hit point score can’t be reduced by Constitution damage or drain to less than 1 hit point per Hit Die.
I hear you. Randomness has no place in character building. I don't want to play a fighter who rolls a 1 for hps every level, and I don't want my players doing it either. Rolling for hps (or stats) is so very important to game balance that it shouldn't be left to chance.Korimyr the Rat said:That's really easy in my games. The optional rule about taking the average at each level isn't optional in my games.

Yellow Sign said:Ok here is another question. It says that if a vampire drains a victim to 0 CON they become a vampire spawn. Now in above situation when the character dies because of hp's lost due the the drain before his CON reaches 0. Does he become a vampire spawn or can the vampire continue to drain CON from the victim to make them a vampire spawn.
