Conan o'Brien makes fun of D&D

I was watching him interview Natalie Portman (mrroww!) a week ago or so...It was a pretty funny exchange if you saw it.

I did see that exchange between the two and it was hilarious. The thing I like about Conan is that whenever he makes fun of something like his nerdy voiced "Go Spidey!" for Spiderman movie fans like myself, I always feel as if it's playful teasing and not mean spirited or nasty.

I can think of more than a few comedians, hosts, radio figures, that are nothing but nasty when they make fun of something like D&D.

Humor doesn't have to hurt.

howard stern jokes about d&d geeks: gets bashed

conan does it: gets praised.

interesting.

of course, the most hysterical (and offensive) :p geek-bashing ever is still Triumph the Insult Comic Dog at the Star Wars line at the Ziegfield theatre in NYC.

Yes, Triumph is a triumph! :D

But how can you be insulted by someone who uses a hand-puppet to make fun of geeks?

i would assume the same way you get offended when howard stern picks on you, but not when conan o'brien does.

but i wouldnt know, i've never ben offended in my life.

Oh my god yes. I hurt myself laughing at that one.

It's the red hair. Conan's red hair make everything easier to swallow. Of course, if I recall, Howard was making veiled references to D&D being used by older men to lure in young boys. No, nothing to get offended with there. Of course, I didn't hear it so not sure if that's accurate. Nor do I care to research and find out if it is accurate. I'd much rather listen to Conan who would never even go into such nasty territory to make fun of something or someone. Whereas even if Howard Stern didn't make the above reference, based on his past actions, I can easily see him making such remarks.

And I still have Triumph's Star Wars bit saved to a CD-RW. Hilarious. Again, funny stuffy, but nothing that is ever meant to be nasty or mean.

The difference being Howard Stern makes jokes in order to offend and get attention. He's a "shock jock." Conan makes jokes to be silly and, let's face it, he's a bit of a geek himself. ;)

I dont really care what Howard Stern thinks about DnD, or anyone..... I mean he has to bash on something...Thats how he makes money.

Gamers are easy targets...

I like Conan...he just seems to be nicer about his delivery of insults. It might be the red hair...

All and all, i do not think that most celebrities live in the "real world". Thus there opinions on just about everything, including politics are worthless to me.

Heh, I like Conan, but then again I am a South Boston Irish American, and may be a smidge buased... :p

My favoritw was a few years ago when he was interviewing a woman who's name I wish I could remember, and the discussion became an argument about Star Trek. He looked like he was having the time of his life! He may not be a gamer, but he is definetly keeping the geek tradition alive...
