Concept: +1 Dex, -1 Con to half-elves?

I've seen people say 'but a bonus feat is so powerful!' about Tech's half-elf on two threads now. It's getting old.

The only bonus feats allowed are like Alertness, Skill Focus, etc. Skill and check feats. No Cleave, Dodge, W. Focus, Rapid Shot. That's the difference. It's like another +2 or 3 in skill bonuses.

Oh, and Technik4, I like your half-elf. Consider it yoinked.

Playable half elves (half orcs, too!)

My playable half elves have human the skill point bonus, in addition to the normal 1/2 elf features.

My playable half orcs have a bonus feat from the followin list at 1st level: Dirty Fighting (My own version, +1d4 sneak attack damage), Endurance, Run, Great Fortitude, Iron Will, Mad Skillz(+2 bonus to any two related skills), Toughness or Apt(1 skill is a class skill). In additon to the normal 1/2 orc features.

Works great for me.

Personally I have played a phb half elf twice. I normally pick human cause I just can't say no to that bonus feat, but I also hvae this odd concept of roleplaying my character. I play half elves because it gives th character definition and helps to flesh him/her out. Being a half elf is great fodder for character background. try writing it for your next char. It may actually be fun.

I like the half-elf concept. I have wanted to play a half-elf a couple times, but the games dont end up panning out, or I come up with a different concept. One I've wanted to play for a long time is a Half-Elf Barb/Sorc. He doesnt really understand his magic, he fights with a Greatsword. Seems like hed be a fun character.

But, as far as balance, I see them as the weakest phb race. Many people have asked "why play a human" with regards to my half-elf. I think most people secretly think "why play a half-elf" when they look at the phb version. You really are almost always better off playing an elf or a human. With my version, that isnt true, and you can create one of the most interesting characters, especially with the bonus feat.
