Confused about falling during rounds...

How does this scenario play out?

PC #1 Init 20
Winged NPC #1 Init 15
PC #2-4 Init 1, 5, & 10

PC attacks, yadda yadda

NPC uses attack action to throw rope and entangle PC, then move action to fly up and lift him 50ft in the air.

The NPC will use a free action to let go of the rope so the PC falls to his death (he can let go this round for free, right?)

1. When other PC's are involved; what is actually going on with the falling PC during init 1-10?

2. If they want to catch him, do they have to hold their action until a certain init?

3. Is the PC falling this same round during the other PC's inits, and if so, do you keep track of how far he's fallen during the other PC's inits to determine when they can catch him (on which init he'll he'll hit the ground)?

I've read discussions that suggest a PC would fall 500ft a round, so I'm using that rule.

I hope this makes sense. I'm having a hard time explaining my confusion.

Answers:

1. Falling PC is either falling or has fallen (taking falling damage) and lays on the ground until his next initiative. Note: if the falling PC has tumble, he can do a tumble check to lessen the fall by 10 ft.

2. They can't catch him, they can't act until there initiative.

Besides do you know how hard it would be to catch a body falling from 50 ft. above. I think the PC attempting to catch his buddy would be subject to taking damage based on the falling PC's weight. Kinda like being thrown from telekenisis or something.

3. From everything I have read, the PC falls immediatley.

From what Iv'e always been told a human body falls at appx 120 mph (at max velocity).

120 mph = 2 miles/ min. (120 mph/ 60 min = 2 miles/ min)

1 Mile = 5280 ft. x 2 miles = 10,560 ft.

10,560 ft/ 60 sec = 176 ft/ sec

176 ft/ sec x 6 sec (round) = 1056 ft./ round

Shellman, regarding #3 that is a rough calculation of terminal velocity. In the first round they'd only go about 1/2 as far starting from zero velocity (when they were dropped). Thus the 500' is a decent number for the first round of falling.

There was a similar discussion a few days ago.
Look here
The basic question is the same.

My short answer: Falling happens as soon as falling is being triggered not at your turn or any time later. First round 500 ft. Later rounds 1000 ft.
That is just my answer. Very different interpretations will arise. :)

Just as a funny

Sorry your in Plate you can only fall 20ft this round.

Couldn't resist that one, pulled it on a friend of mine one time, his fighter was bull rushed off the side of a cliff. We knew there was no way he would survive, 100ft fall 10d6 he had about 20HP left. He about choked on the chips he was munching when I said that one. The group all had a good laugh.
