Confused and Frustrated....Please HELP !!!!

Hackenslash

First Post
Hello All,

I seem to be having a lot of problems lately with the ENWorld Forum Pages and message boards in general. Firstly, I have to "Refresh" every time I change pages or go back to other forum pages and also inbetween viewing threads. Secondly, some forums on the message boards(eg. Rogues Gallery, Meta, and DnD Rules - including links) are difficult to access and either take a long time (16 mins at one time ???) to load or don't load at all and you get the "Page Can not be Displayed" message on your PC. Thirdly, I had a terrible time even tring to post on this Forum(Meta) as it repeatedly asked me to register my user name and password even after I had already done this 5 times today, bearing in mind the inbetween "Refreshes" I had to do. Also once the forum was accessed and I selected "new thread" it would say that I "Did not have permission". I have already followed the FAQ advice and subscribed to each forum individually and registered my name and password accordingly etc...but I am at a loss to explain why it seems to be so difficult to access forums and view threads at times when there is not much activity on the net in general, nor even on the main ENWorld Web Page itself. So am I doing something wrong or is it something to do with the recent Crash of the site due to the problems with "Cyberstreet". When I first joined EnWorld it worked like a dream and I did not have any problems that could not be solved or were my own user errors. Anway thanks for reading this post and I will look forward to any advice or suggestions that come forward from the community. Thanks again....

do you use www.enworld.org to connect, or enworld.cyberstreet.com to connect? Maybe try using whichever one you weren't using before and see if that helps. Otherwise, I don't have any advice for you... maybe one of the computer gurus will stop in to assist.

Sounds like you may want to delete your enworld cookies. You can either wipe out all of your cookies (ie's tools--> internet options), or type "cookie" into Window's Search function and have it find where yours are stored (delete anything with EN World by hand).

Once you do, log in again, and tell your PC to remember the password. It should fix the problem.

Thanks Piratecat....but still haveing problems.

Hello Piratecat, thanks for the reply.

I did what you suggested but it has not solved the problem completely. I am still having to "Refresh" inbetween pages and even just a second ago when I logged back on to ENWorld, I had to "Refresh" to get it to display it's full home page. Also on this Forum the same thing happened again. I select message boards, then the "Meta" forum and it says "Welcome back, Hackenslash....etc " and that I was last logged on 05/10/03, which is not correct, as I posted this reqeust for help today 05/20/03. So I have to "Refresh" again and it then displays the correct dates and times of login and my post etc...I am using Windows NT at work at the moment but seem to have the same problems on my PC at home which uses Windows 98. Does this have something to do with the problem. I did delete the "cookies" and entered my user name and password again at the bottom of the message board site on the "request for cookies" question. But still no luck. I don't mind refreshing but it does take forever to post anything and will persevere with it as I really like this site but don't seem to be having much luck with the site remembering me or my posts for some reason. Cheers in advance for any more advice..... :)

Sorry Eric....did not mean to ignore your post.

Hello Eric,

I normally use www.enworld.org to login, but have also tried the cyberstreet option and I am still haveing the same problems. Cheers for the suggestion tho':)

A few other questions:

1) Did you delete just the ENWorld Cookies or all of them?

2) Have you made any alterations to your software recently? (Updated Internet Explorer, added new programs that add components to Internet Explorer, etc.)?

3) Are you using a Mac or a PC?

4) Are you using IE 5 or IE 6, or another browser altogether?

5) Do you cut your computer on with your right hand or your left? (OK, that last one was just for fun. :D)

I think I am OK now....Cheers All !!!

Hello Again All,:)

Thanks for all your advice. I am using 2 PC's, one at work IE5 and Windows NT, no recent downloads or changes and at home I use IE6 and Windows 98, again with no recent changes apart from installing a new virus protector, Norton 2003. However, after removing the cookies(I tried all of them) and re-booting and after ENWorld has been back up, I have been running fine on the Message Boards so fingers crossed I think it's working fine now, maybe my problem was also to do with the ENWorld site being down at the time. Thanks to all for tring to help and offering advice. AND....isn't it great that we are all able to Post stuff on ENWorld again....congrats to all involved in the recovery of the site......Cheers !!!!! ;)
