Confusing wording in Shielding Spirit feat

Sagiro

Rodent of Uncertain Parentage
Shielding Spirit's text is:

"When you use healing spirit, each ally adjacent to your spirit companion gains a +2 bonus to all defenses until the end of your next turn."

I can't figure out which meaning to use:

A) When you use Healing Spirit, allies who are adjacent to you at that moment get a boost to defenses until the end of your next turn, even if they move away from your spirit companion during that time.

B) When you use Healing Spirit, then until the end of your next turn, any ally who happens to be standing next to your spirit companion gets a defense boost as long as they stay there, even if they weren't next to the spirit companion when Healing Spirit went off.

I *think* that (A) is correct, but I'm not entirely sure.

Thanks for your opinions or (even better) link to an official clarification.

A is correct.

Otherwise, the wording would be "allies gain +2 to all defenses, while adjacent to your spirit companion." See Protector Spirit Adept as an example. No "while" means the effect is instantaneous.

A is correct except for "Allies who are adjacent to you" needs to be "your spirit companion"

while i realize this point is somewhat pedantic, i thought I'd pipe in

I would say A, also. "When you use..." is describing the point in time when you use the healing evocation, not some point in the future. The duration then applies to the defense bonus. It's an instantaneous effect that creates a lasting effect.

To support B, there would need to be two durations noted: how long the "defense bonus if adjacent" lasts, and how long the defense bonus itself lasts (which could be only while adjacent).

Let's get into even more depth, so you can understand WHY it works like that.

Every effect with a duration has an end condition. This end condition is always stated as an end condition.

In this case, the only end condition is 'until the end of your next turn' meaning that adjacency to your spirit companion is not required for the end condition of the power. That means that the term of adjacency is reffering to the instant the ability is used.

The above posters are right... if it was meant to be a continuous thing that turned on and off based on adjacency to your spirit, it would say 'until end of turn, while adjacent to your pet' which would make two effects with two end conditions. The first is one that has a start and end condition hinging on adjacency to your pet, and the second is putting the end condition 'until end of turn' on that pet 'aura'.
