I won't say anything about druids not being allowed to wear metal armour and still cast spells, as it has been made clear.
About the metal armour and metal weapons thing: The way it is now is a vast improvement of 3.0 - There you couldn't use non-druid weapons, but amongst the druid weapons were a lot of weapons with significant metal parts. I think the difference between armour and weapons is that you surround yourself with metal in the case of armour, which is much worse than holding it at arm's length (literally). Disallowing druids the use of any weapon with metal parts would be too extreme, IMO, since the only things he could use would be sling, club and quarterstaff (can't think of anything else right at the moment). Far too restrictive, if you ask me. Not even a sickle or dagger.
