Constructed languages are new to me. Right now, I’m working on a language that is meant to be some kind of proto-language in my multiverse Weavesong.
Here is a sketch of the language. It is based on phonemes, and each phoneme has a meaning. Then you combine the phonemes to form new words and new sentences. The language is intended to be the original language of humans — maybe 50,000 years old. It was given to humans by a primal force called Logo. Logo has taken many forms over time (Odin, Thoth, etc.).

The basics of the language are easy to learn — if you learn the 44 phonemes, you can communicate at least somewhat. Each word/basic word also has a note, so you can communicate using any instrument. Or whistle the language :)

Does anyone have experience creating languages?

Here are the basics (not all phonemes have assigned basic words/sentences yet):

There are a few hundred concepts shared across most languages in smaller or greater part; since English lures other languages into dark alleys and mugs them for vocabulary...

The Dolch word lists are a great start point for English users to focus on common concepts.

A list of Japanese words by frequency exists: Routledge 5000 Vocab - Kanshudo (It's got the kanji, pronunciation, and English definitions.

Other languages have similar frequent words lists.

Finding the overlaps should give your a robust vocab to trim down from.
