Conquest - Rapier

I watched the latest CONQUEST on the History Channel which was on the Musketeers and Rapiers, they listed the Rapier at 30 pounds. Or, 10x heavier then the PHB. Perhaps they forgot to put in a decimal point?

Yeah, they messed up. I mean, does anyone really believe Leonardo Dicaprio could wield a 30 lb. weapon?

Actually, could anyone wield a 30 lb. weapon? Maybe Magnus ver Magnussen, but that's about it.

30 pounds? HA! Maybe a rapier made for giants... even 3 pounds might be pushing it a little.

If I remember correctly rapiers actually are a little on the heavy side for one handed swords, around the 4-5 lbs range, due to the complex hilt, though it's not so immediately noticable as the point of balance is located much closer to the hand to allow for finer point control. This of course goes down as it evolves into the weapon known as the smallsword.

[edit: I amend my earlier statement, 4-5 is not quite right, however they weren't the lightest of weapons, especially earlier styles. Try the link below, lots of interesting info.]

SPEEGEE. Do the math, damnit. It isn't possible for a rapier to weigh that much. It just isn't possible. (and 5 pounds is up there, as well.)

That CANNOT be right. I've got a rapier-like sword (ex ceremonial military, it's got a snakeskin hilt and an ornate handguard with the royal crest of George the Fifth in it), and even with the scabbard there's no way it weighs that much.

- Just checked, the kitchen scales say 1240g (2 and 3/4 pounds). WITH scabbard. Without, it's 830g. Now let's be fair and assume you have a belt to hang it off. Still no way in Hades.

Someone's dropped a decimal point somewhere.

Nonono... that had to be a mistake. A rapier weighed 2-3 pounds at the most. I have a Paul Chen rapier that weighs just under 2 pounds and a Museum Replicas rapier that weighs a measly 1.5.
