Construct Familiars???

Lord Ravinous

First Post
I remember seeing something to this effect somewhere in the form of a feat. This is the first time I've ever bothered with a familiar and since the character is a follower of Gond, I figured a Construct Familiar would fit him best. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance :)

Hoping I'm right

IIRC, Construct familiars (along with Undead and a few others) were presented in Dragon Magazine. I can't remember the article number, but I'm pretty certain it was in an issue that talked a lot about Sorcerers. (The Eldritch Master prestige class might also have been in this issue.)

I hope this rings a few bells, so to speak.

Actually, the name sumed the feat pretty well: as far as I remember, there was no prerequisites or special effects, just that once you have the feat you can have familiars of the construct type rather than normal familiar. You treat your familiar normally (i.e., it's still a cat, rat, raven, toad...) but with d10 HD, no Con score, and the Construct type. All other things are exactly like the normal animal counterpart of your mechanical pet.

There is a wizard in our party looking fro the same thing. I looked thru my Dungeon mags and could not find it. I do remember they are pretty powerful as listed and would only fit high lvl campaigns. It would probably be best to homerule it for a lower level concept.

isn't that what a homonculus is kinda? ... you can take it as your familiar if you take the improved familiar feat (Tome and Blood)

Hey. The issue you're looking for is Dragon #280; the article is "A Little More Familiar" which gives new animals for familiars, as well as the feats Enspell Familiar, Extra Familiar, Construct Familiar, Token Familiar, and Undead Familiar. It also has new spells, including Familiar's Sense, Familiar's Touch, Share Life, Familiar's Form, and Call Familiar.

No, Construct Familiar kinda allow you to apply a template on a standard familiar:

Construct: type change to construct, Hit Die change to d10, special quality: gain construct immunities to critical hit, sneak attack, mind-affecting effects, etc.

The construct familiar will looks like a mechanical toy version of the normal familiar. There was a picture of a wizard oiling his clockwork rat familiar.
