Contingency

I agree. The best bet against this kind of thing is probably not contingency anyway - it is your familiar with a ring of spell storing and some suitable "get my master back into the action" spells prepared in it!

You know, if I were charmed, having all of the buff spells on me go down, in case the charm itself didn't, might not be such a bad thing for my party anyway.

Would it not be easier (and simpler) to have contingency to cast protection from evil on you, since that is *guaranteed* to block attempts to dominate or mentally control you? [snip]

Not if your would-be controller is neutral. Or good, for that matter.

Sounds to me like you guys are using Charms like Dominations. If you are Charmed, your party should not be in an any immeditate danger. A "friend" cannot make you attack your real friends...only not attack HIM.

IMHO.

Your best bet (at high level) is probably a Break Enchantment if you really want something like this.

As for the Charm/Domination dichotomy, Larcen speaks (mostly) true. He cannot compel you to use lethal force. However, he can ask you to heal/help him, restrain or restrict your friends: polymorphing them would probably be reasonable as long as you change them back; as would holding them or using enchantments to otherwise stop them attacking your 'good friend'

Al, I agree with all this. Right on. I just didn't want to get into this level of detail. I said no "immediate danger", but hindering them in some clever way is another story...

I believe you are incorrect here. The deflection and resistance bonuses only apply against evil sources, and it hedges out non-good summoned creatures, but the mental shielding has no such restrictions, thus it breaks all attempts at mental control, whatever the alignment of the controller.

Cheers
