Well, I do wish 4e come up with something iconic. How many times will Temple of Elemental Evil be converted? Sure it's one of the quintessential D&D adventure, but each edition should have something distinct about them that people will remember. In 20 years from now, people look back at 4e and what will they remember? Game mechanics? I bet people still remember Temple of Elemental Evil.

All I'm getting out of this is edition bashing. If you have another point, you have sufficient edition bashing in the OP to obscure it.

If you feel I'm "edition bashing" by saying "this is what could be done to make an edition more appealing to me" then by all means, whatever gets your coffee percolating in the morning, sir.

That isn't the case, but clearly I can't disabuse you of that despite a clarification, so.

Admin note: Prefacing a rude statement with 'with all due respect' doesn't make it un-rude. Please don't do it.

With all due respect, it sounds to me like you are getting old, the world is changing around you, and you aren't dealing with it very well.

Get some help, play your system of choice with your friends, and come to grips with the fact that while you can make your voice heard you have no control over the future of D&D.

It has been two years. Seriously, get over it.

The cognitive dissonance in your post is staggering. Let me restate since you seem to be misconstruing what I said: I. Would like. To see. Better. Conversions. And. I think. Said conversions. Would. Probably. Help. WotC.

It's about doing things like not making the moathouse dungeon a fight in a tiny basement (for example).

So it is about petty and petulant whining about scale? If you don't want that to be what I get out of your argument, you really should stop making that a key point.

No, I'm not trying to be a jerk or anything, I usually like your posts and I'm interested in figuring out what you're getting at. Looking at your clarification (I assume you mean this post):

It's in the context of getting the feel of the adventures right, by which you (you being WotC) might attract myself and other players who prefer vintage D&D games to what is currently being offered under the D&D banner.

It's about doing things like not making the moathouse dungeon a fight in a tiny basement (for example).

It's about looking at a module and going "S4 THE LOST CAVERNS OF TSOJCANTH is a classic, let's have our ducks in a row when we convert this" versus "WOOO FIGHT WITH A VAMPIRE! WOO!"

See, I don't really know what you're getting at here- are there conversions of T1 and S4 to 4e that I haven't seen that sin against the classic modules in some way? Maybe I'm missing some key information here or something.

I will say that I have issues with 4e's adventure design, or at least the way the adventures are laid out. But I think some of them are destined to be seen as classics despite their flaws (P1 and P2, especially). I think that it is quite possible to do a great conversion of an old school (1ed, Basic, whatever) module to 4e, even on the fly, and really keep the feel of the original. I mean, I've done this with a couple of them, including The Lost City, and they've worked great.
