I'll start with the very first character I ever played:

This character was created way back in 1987 (when I was 12!) with the Mentzer edition D&D Basic, Expert and Companion sets. Gideon was an 11th-level fighter when last I left him.
Way back then, we didn’t put much (if any) effort into a character’s background, and a character’s personality was generally developed as we went along. As you can probably tell, the DM was a bit, ah... liberal... with his choices in treasure (yes, that’s a shotgun in there), but, hey, we were 12 and we were having fun.
