I got an idea earlier while making dinner.
Thelarn Swifthammer, buried at the Hill of Lost Souls, was the creator of the Forge of Spells centuries before. He passed on, asking to be buried with his life works, his hammer, axe, armor, and his books of magical lore. After being buried, the area around his tomb was inhabited by orcs, other goblinoids, and a mad cleric of the god of Fire Elementals. The mad cleric wants to awaken the dormant volcano through sacrifices to his god. The drow use him as another chance to destroy the party when they go there. To find the tomb, however, they need to locate where he was interred. To do this, I want to send the group to the ruins of Spirit Soaring; I know it was destroyed in one of the books, but sending them there amuses me. I also remember reading that Spirit Soaring's ruins were inhabited by something.
What do you think that something could be? Undead is an obvious answer. Oo, maybe the ghost of Hephaestus, the dragon that assaulted the church in Salvatore's The Ghost King (I haven't read it, going off the wiki here) is still inhabiting the church, trapped there? Or maybe something else?
