I would definitely want to ... simplify and standardize token generation. Create a standard, and (4E design philisophy) you might want to add exceptions. Maybe an Executioner gains an extra token when he makes a sneak attack, or a Armiger gets a token when an attack misses, or stuff like that.Triangleman27 said:Ok. How about starting every encounter with an 'Action Token Pool' that can activate all types of token-based powers. This pool starts at 3 at level 1 and increases by 1 every level divisible by 4. Powers typically cost 1 or 2 tokens while especially powerful ones could be Dailies. Each class has different ways to regain tokens in the course of combat.
The standard mechanic for token gaining might assume that tokens are gained individually per power source.
You gain tokens the following way (once per round, benefit only from one option)
Basic Attack: Generates one token
Minor Action: Generates two token
Standard Action: Generates three token
Special Option: Once per day, you can spend a free action to gain 5 Token. This is the only otpion that stacks with the others options.
Limit: At the beginning of your next turn, you lose tokens until you have no more then 5.
You pay as follows:
At-Will Power: 1 Token
Per Encounter Power: 5 Token
Per Day Power: 10 Token
Tokens are only expended if the normal power use would be expended (so Reliable daily powers don't cost anything if you miss)
You start each encounter with 5 Tokens. (Thanks to the 5 point limit, this is what would happen anyway - otherwise, people would constantly pretend to be in an encounter just to get there.) Off course, encounter powers can now be used a lot more often then once per encounter. And you can repeat the same encounter power over and over again. (If you want to avoid that, you could make the cost increase)
Well, I am confident that, despite still having to wait 2 montsh for the rules, that the resource management stuff has been done in 4E and not changed/removed on the last minute, or applies only to DDXP 1st level characters. And as 4E already doing what Iron Heroes did, the game wont be out in two months anyway and IH seems more of a better ruleset for low-magic, dark fantasy settings a la Conan and Berserk.
