Cool items that the party never used.

Back in 1st Edition, my fighter carried around an arrow of vampire slaying for two years, real-time. I never did get a chance to use the thing.

The Machine of Lum the Mad.
The party went through my 3e version of watchers keep (none of them play baldurs gate) It took about 4 months of playing everyweek. From the very first level they were finding the scrolls that has the weird and cryptic clues from Lum. They tried to solve every level using them, getting very frustrated. When they finally found the machine and finally figured out what those clues were they had been carrying around, they used the one clue to open the gate to the next level....and then went through the portal. THEY DIDN'T USE ANY OF THE OTHER CLUES. uhhg. Every attribute had a +2 unnamed bonus as well as many other powerful permanent affects. It was basically half the treasure of the dungeon, and they were too scared to use it.

I admit I am one of those rainy day users myself. Mainly for computer games. I just can't stand to use it just in case I need it later on. The only wand I used in Baldur's Gate was Monster Summoning!

That folding white tower is way cool!
