Cool mounts 2 - simple solutions?

I once drew up a halfling outrider, with Leadership, and an awakened wolf with levels of the hunter variant druid.
Pity I never got to play him. Our DM likes things that eats small characters though.

Funny thing about that though, the cohort had an animal companion, which had less hit dice and improved evasion, while the druid wolf had evasion, but only when the halfling was riding him.

A mount with an animal companion... wierd. I'd have just swapped the animal companion for some other ability set. Maybe a druidic avenger cohort wolf mount? :D

I just realized: there's no reason why you couldn't have a wift hunter druidic avenger for your awakened cohort. The fast movement stacks (+20 at 3rd level), the AC can counter the AC lost by raging (Instantaneous Rage for extra survivability!), the tracking feat can't hurt (especially with the wolf's Scent ability), and the favored enemy bonus could be swapped for favored terrain (improves skills, including Survival for tracking).

Yes, I think I just found another really good idea for a mount! Thanks.

I was thinking along those lines when I read this earlier in the thread:

But where was that horse when you were 6th level? You could've used a 15-HD horse back then.

If a 15-HD horse encounters a 6th-level PC, it's more likely that he'll use you rather than the other way around! ;)
