Cool New Minis - Heroscape Game

First Post
Hey folks,

While browsing the toy section of Wal-Mart last night looking for anything I could make work on game night, I found an awesome new game with its own line of miniatures. It's a Hasbro product called Heroscape. The game itself looks neat, but I was particularly drawn to the very highly detailed miniatures (especially the dragon) and the several figure expansion packs. They are just a tad more expensive than official D&D miniatures, but they offer a variety of figures and are very, very detailed. Also, unlike D&D miniatures, you can see what you are buying because the package is transparent. They are mounted on bases a little large for d20 gaming (just a hair smaller than a Mage Knight base).

I picked up two of the expansion packs last night and got miniatures that I'll use as a yuan-ti abomination, a pit fiend, an angel, a human centurian, three orc archers (or other humanoid), four orc swordsman, and an orc mounted on a dinosaur. No two figures are the same.

Anyhow, sorry if this isn't new news to everyone. I just saw it last night and wanted to pass the info along!

The website (www.heroscape.com) retails the game itself (with 30 minis) at $39.99 and the expansions at $12.99. At Wal-Mart, the game was $39.99, but they were selling the expansion packs for $9.92. There are four expansion packs currently available: a Roman legion, a Grut legion (look like blue orcs), a 'snipers and vipers' pack (looks kind of like 3 storm troopers and 3 yuan-ti), and a heros pack (has a Roman, an angel, a demon, a yuan-ti and the dinosaur with Grut rider).

The game is a lot of fun, too. Don't overlook that. A great intro to skirmish wargames for kids or newbies, with basic and advanced rules. My two daughters love it.

You know, it might be informative if people named off game systems or whatnot that contain miniatures useful for gaming. I know there are a lot of games out there with useful minis, and I'm the kind of person who isn't above buying a game just to get the figures! I'm sure there are a lot out there I don't know about. So folks, tell me some of the products you've found with useful d20 game pieces!

Useful Miniatures:

HeroQuest (oop)
Dragon Strike (oop)
Crossbows & Catapults (oop)
Heroscape
Mega Bloks Dragons
Mage Knight
Warhammer 40k

I'll second that. I'll probably be starting my son in on it soon.

I also got all four expansions for x-mas. They haven't hit the battlemat yet for D&D, but soon.....
