Buy a case of minis and split them up between your gamers. Or buy a case, open them all, and either draw individual minis out of a hat or have a roll-off for them.

One year I printed out a 4 paragraph rhyme on that scroll-looking paper. It had a chant on it the players had to say. What it did was give a permenant stat bonus to one of their characters. It was redeamable on any of their characters I DMed for the following year. I gave one to each of my players. It was cheap and my players loved it. It was a gift to them and one of their characters at the same time.

I got my brother a print from Larry Elmore's website last year. Some of them are pretty darn pricey, but the B&W Paper Giclees are very reasonable.

Dice are always nice. The Steel Sqwire templates look neat (I want some).
Mini's either WoTC or metal ones that closely resemble their characters.
Also gaming supplies such as clipboards, 3 ring binders, mechanical pencils, dry erase markers.
The new card game from WoTC might also be cool.
