Coolest, Most Heroic, and Stupidest Heroes of all time...

Dumbest: That's tough too. There are so many. At the top of my list is Richard Rahl from Terry Goodkind's Sword of Truth cycle. I can't stand him. It took an entire book for the author to figure out what this moron looked like... He's used to personify seriously right-winged political perspectives without even a veneer of "everymanness." He's a huge rip from half of the concepts from Jordan's Wheel of Time. He makes me sick.

I'm so glad someone agrees with me on this. I absolutely despised this book.

Coolest: For me, it has to be Conan. He's *ahem* rough around the edges, but he really reads as a rebel against all evils of civilization and 'small men.' He helps his friends, but doesn't have to hug when the adventure's over. And Conan always gets the chick..for long enough, at least.

Most Heroic: Superman is an obvious choice, but I think Captain America is one of the greatest comic book heroes. He militaristic, but he believes and fights for America's core values. And hell, he's been fighting for... 60+ years.

Dumbest: He-Man... A big roid-rager walking around in his underwear. I never understood what the heck he was actually doing. Protecting Castle Greyskull? Trying to get into Teela's leotard? And what's with the big green cat?

Coolest: I am going to say Matt Helm (that should keep some of you guessing).

Most Heroic: I have to agree with ragboy about Captain America for many reasons.

Dumbest: Dudley Doright ... c'mon, really.

Having just watched the movie again yesterday, I have to add a new Coolest Hero to these lists:

I mean, who is the man who can risk his neck for fellow man?

Coolest: Han Solo, Jack Sparrow - it's amusing how coolness is essential for our "rogueish" heros.

Most Heroic: Sydney Carton, Atticus Finch

Dumbest: Thankfully, I tend to forget truely dumb heroes.

As to the Supes-thing, Superman isn't really a hero because of his strength or powers. He's a hero because he refutes the idea that "Power corrupts". That's why the best Superman stories (ie Kingdom Come) tend to revolve around this point.

Bravest: Tuptim (Anna and the King)
Stupidest: Forest Gump (Forest Gump)

Adrian Monk is way cooler than Bond, in my book, because he's way more interesting and entertaining to watch.

I never thought about Monk. Good call, man!

Coolest: James Bond, Han Solo, et al.

Most Heroic: Atticus Finch (Rated #1 Hero from the AFI's list of: 100 movies: 100 heroes & villains. NOTE: it's a PDF.)

Stupidest: The Tick and Austin Powers (although he's just cool, so that makes up for it)

Coolest: Wolverine. I might get flak for this, since Wolvie-bashing is (and some what rightly, mind you) at an all time high, but he is far and way my favorite fictional character, so he has to be the coolest in my book. No matter what has been done to him, Logan keeps coming back, and Lord help you if you hurt somebodyb he cares about, since he'll track you to the ends of the Earth and beyond, if he has to.


Most Heroic: Samwise Gammgee. If it wasn't for him, Sauron would've had the Ring, and he did it all just to help his friend.

Dumbest: Robin. I like Nightwing well enough, but Robin? I know I'm think too much Burt Ward here, but I've allways hated teenage sidekicks for superheros, ( Even Jubilee)
I may as well go right to the horse's mouth on this.

Coolest: I'll second Wormwood, and go with Leon. Especially from the uncut international version. If you haven't seen the full version of the movie, you haven't seen the movie.

Most Heroic: That really depends on what your definition of heroism is. Han Solo would fit for me. He does *not* have to help the rebels. He could survive and thrive even if the Empire wins absolutely. His helping the rebels was truly out of the goodness of his heart -- well, and wanting Princess Leia, but you can't get a more human motivation than that.

Dumbest: Any "hero" who lets the bad guys get away to murder and destroy another day. That includes most superheros, but #1 on the list is Batman. The fact that he has not killed the Joker shows he is a moron. You may pity a rabid dog when you put it down, but you put it down. Dark Knight? Pfui. Dork Knight is more like it!

Now that last one should generate some nice controversy.

Coolest: Clint Eastwood, any character.

Most Heroic: John Wayne, any character.

Dumbest: not sure

Coolest Hero: Connor McLoud, Corwin of Amber, Itto Ogami

Most Heroic Hero: Perrin Aybara (because he doesn't do what he wants to do but gives up a large chunk of his life/existence to do what he must)

Stupidest Hero: Guy Gardner (worst thing that ever happened to the GL Corps)
