Core, and Epic magic items

There are no magic item bonus limitations in the core rules, or even the current campaign settings that I am aware of.

Here I'm quoting from the core-rules 3.0 SRD. I couldn't find it in the 3.5 SRD, but I know it's still in the 3.5 DMG in the magic items chapter:

Many magic items offer a bonus on attack rolls, damage rolls, saving throws, Armor Class, ability scores, or skill checks. Most items that add to saving throws, attack rolls, damage rolls, or AC are restricted to a maximum bonus of +5. (Bracers of armor are an exception.) Most items that add to ability scores are restricted to a maximum bonus of +6, and the bonus usually comes in multiples of 2 (+2, +4, or +6). Skill check bonuses do not have a maximum.

And every DM ought to have a very good reason to quash something inside the rules.

Not to sound snarky or anything, but how about, "Because I'm the DM?" While it's an answer players really don't like, it is the ultimate valid answer.

How do you know it is there? How do we know it is there if you can't point to it?

He's quoting from the online SRD. He may not have access to his DMG right now. I've got my DMG in PDF form with me today, so I'll try to dig it up. dcollins, do you happen to remember a page range it is in?

well not to sound snarky or anything, but how about, "Take your books and get out of my house?" While it's an answer the DM really doesn't like, it is the ultimate valid answer.

The Magic items rules on pgs 211-277.
And two of us already noted we could not find it in 3.5 either.

I've seen the armor and weapon limits, and those are fine, but I've never seen any writen limets on things like skill or stat based items, at least spelled out in the non-epic SRD/DMG.

I believe ability increases,from items can't go over +6.

Just say to them "Making such an item requires too much power, hence is cost more. Like items have a hardness, they have a range of magic they can posses, breaking the limit of the item could result in it breaking or not working at all."

So the Epic part is generally sqeezing more power into an item without it breaking...

It is also p309 in the PHB.

It seems to mention only a bonus named inherent, which i can only find mentioned in the wish spell. Are there no other ability mod bonus types? Nameless perhaps?

Absolutely. Although I would mark this one as a childish answer, it is still quite valid. When it comes down to it, the DM doesn't have to justify an answer with the rules. I got the impression from your post that "Because I feel that would break the game" is not a valid reason to shoot down a magic item concept.

I'll look for it now. Back in a few. It may not be in there anymore.

I don't own the 3.5 books, but I believed I saw it when I flipped through a friend's book previously. Perhaps it has been removed if several of you are all not finding it.
