Core Books [3.5] - Background Lines

Amazingly enough, as much as I hate watermarks, background graphics and stuff like that (certain WW oriental books come to mind).. I didn't mind the lines. And I never found a place where they were pasted over the text. That in itself seems utterly amazing.

I didn't mind them, but I wouldn't cry if they went away.

The background lines do add much needed IMHO pizazz... I think WotC cannot go wrong by making the lines a little less obvious (thinner with grayed out brown for colour maybe) for those that are bothered by the lines.

I'll chime in with I could care less mostly because like DG I was not really aware they were there till I just checked.

Edit: I do think the lines help break up the white and they do not get in the way of the text.

What!?!

Whataya mean, "They're getting rid of the background lines"?

GAH! That means all the 3rd party notebook paper I've already bought will be invalidated! Those evil, evil people!

Oh, the humanity...

My lines?!? My precious lines, gone, are they?

I really liked the lines, for some reason it made reading easier on the eyes. I wouldn't mind, though, if they were made lighter, but I hope they don't disappear altogether.

Wow! Its been unanimous for the lines. How much is it going to cost me to pay you guys off to vote the other way?

I'm one of those that found the background lines distracting while reading the text. But then again I don't have the greatest eye sight. I can understand the presence of the lines for the tables, but behind the text?

Anyway, I realize the low priority of this discussion but even the less important details need a little discussion.

Ah no wonder I didn't know what you guys were taling about. I had looked at my Psionics Handbook, which has no lines. What was the last book to have lines?

Of the hardcovers? The Monstrous Manual.

The three core book had lines. It was intended to give the book a medieval look'n feel. Alas, those lines were not used during he middle age, but (IIRC) during the renaissance era. And, IMO, they are simply ugly : just open the MM (with lines) and the MM2 (without) to see wich one is better. Or the DMG and the PsiHB. Or the PHB and the french PHB (well, most of you will have a hard time to find this one).

So, no lines, please.

The lines serve the same purpose as serifs on text. There's some research on the subject. I prefer serifed text (unlike most techies), and liked the lines. You'll probably find much of the debate going the same way.
