Core Plus Eberron Plus One

Vargo

First Post
I'm going to be playing in a campaign starting this Friday. The DM has set the rules for using books as follows:

No Psionics.
Other than the aforementioned "No Psionics" you can use any single WotC book in addition to the Player's Handbook and the Eberron core book.

We have several options for character level - 6th, 10th, or 14th, to be decided when we meet. I have no idea what the stat generation method will be, but last time we did two sets of 4d6, and if you didn't like either one, you could roll a third, but were stuck with the third. Items will be as appropriate for character level.

I have a couple ideas myself, but I'm curious to know what book you would pick, and what character you would play.

Wait... you each get to pick a single book? Man, no good will come of that :)
I'm pretty 'vanilla' when it comes to characters. I'd probably pick a shifter druid, shifter ranger or fighter, or Human dragonmarked mage. If we were starting at 14th, then warforged artificer.

If you want to be a spellcaster, then Spell Compendium would be hard to beat unless you were dependent on a prc or feat (reserve?) in one of the complete books.

You could have a lot of fun using Dragonmarked and building some of the prcs from that book too.

yeah it really depends on what you want to play. If you're playing an artificer, Magic of Eberron. Any of the Eberron races, Races of Eberron. A dragonmarked character, Dragonmarked.

If you just want to mess with his plans for Eberron, get Races of the Dragon. :P

If you are playing a cleric, druid, or wizard, I highly recommend Spell Compendium.

If I think of any others, I'll post again.

Artificers could also take Magic Item Compendium :-)

Really, for a spellcaster, SC is a no-brainer. Beyond that, it depends purely what you want to play. My top 3 choices

1.) Warforged Fighter (Races of Eberron)
2.) Shifter Druid (Spell Compendium)
3.) Changling Sorcerer (Spell Compendium)

Good point on Races of Eberron...the racial feats alone make it worthwhile, especially for a warforged character.

Improved Grapple + Spiked Body + Jaws of Death = meatgrinder

If you're looking to play a cleric, Faiths of Eberron might be worthwhile, though you'll get more mileage out of Spell Compendium I suspect.

My current DM actually shot down MIC for my artificer. I wanted to make the revised version of the artificer's monocle printed in that book as it's cheaper to create and buy, but he likes the "mystery" behind identifying magic items. Personally, I think the identify spell takes too long and costs too much for something that's such a mundane aspect of the game.

Off-topic: Hey, Remathilis, I have an odd request. Can you slow down the animated gif for your avatar or at least put a lengthy pause between cycles? I'd PM you, but I'd have to pay money to do that.
