Core Setting? Why no Greyhawk?

Many folks I know (including myself) only collect the hardcovers 'cause they last longer, and are easier to deal with. Unfortunatly, this means no "Faerun" monsters (like Bullywugs) or Greyhawk information!
Forgotten Realms, Rokugan, even Ravenloft! Where's the World of Greyhawk hardcover?

First of all, bullywugs predate FR.

Second of all, go read the Living Greyhawk Gazetteer before you spout of nonsense like this. It's a very very old, tired rant.

Read the LGG, it is the book yall are crying about not having.

Well for you Scarred Lands fan, the SLCS IS your premier book. It may not have regional feats, new domains or character creations. BUT it does offer great and insightful looks at the various places and geographical features in the Scarred Lands. :)

Funny....

The LGG's weak point is no crunchy bits.

Lack of crunchy bits is a strength of the SLCS....

the logic escapes me.

Uhm I don't think I said I DIDN'T like the LGG. I have it, it's good.

What different IS that unlike Greyhawk WHICH has had a comprehesive history that wasn't in various books, the SLCS takes a lot the info in other books and distills them. That plus it gives us a deeper look at everything in the Scarred Lands, PLUS the fact it also adds in the gods and the invocation benefits for them.

GAHHHHHH

Because Scarred Lands is better then everything, it's the bestest since sliced bread!!!!! It's cliched thrown down Titans is so original!!! WEeeee. Gah damn man, every thread your in you whore Scarred Lands as the next coming of Christ.

As for the topic, use the crunch from all the other books. What Greyhawk Specific stuff is left, feats? There aren't any left, maybe four or five combinations of +2 to two skills but that's about it. I love Greyhawk but it's the truth. At least they recently issued or someone diid, the incorporation of FR domains into Greyhawk (Which they did in the latest Chainmail Campaign book, which is set in Greyhawk)

Uhm I don't think I said that EITHER! What I said was, I thought it was good AND I also thought it deserved a look. You guys might rail against me for liking this setting so much BUT don't knock JUST because I like. I have NOT, I repeat, NOT said anything to disparge ANY other setting. I just feel that the Scarred Lands IS a great setting. You don't like my opinions, fine. But don't flame me for HAVING those opinions.

I don't understand what you're saying here. The LGG is exactly what you describe, a collection of all the GH material out there, plus new stuff to bring the campaign up to date and develop some of the previously untouched areas. It's got god write ups, in 3e PHB format (expanded info though, compared to the skimpy details in the PHB). The LGG and SLCS both accomplish the same goal, describing hte setting and giving you enough material to run a campaign with, while still relying on other books (the core wotc books in LGG's case, S&SS's other books in SLCS's case) to supply the 'crunch'.

Keep in mind that I'm not knocking SLCS, I have it, it's a good piece of work, I'll enjoy stealing material from it for my GH game. All I am saying is that your comparing apples and apples here. The LGG lives up to all the things people like about SLCS, yet the same people don't like LGG. It boggles my mind trying to figure out why a heard cover makes so much difference to people.

Chat,

I didn't FEEL like I was. What I saying is that the LGG has HISTORY to back it up. Meaning that it's been tested and endured the EXPERIENCES that shape a gaming world. I don't mean in anyway to say that one or the other is better. I'm just saying they're DIFFERENT in their approaches. One is trying to fill gaps in a history that has been well documented. (I bet you ten to one you'll find more GH websites than Scarred Lands at this point.) The other is trying to take diverse material and make a whole point.

I don't think any LESS of the LGG or more of it. It's a part of the Greyhawk world and that's FINE. What I'm TRYING to say is simply this: Greyhawk has history to back it up and experience on it's side. The SLCS is still trying to work it's way through the gammut of d20 stuff to make people see that it's more than just some portable monsters and cool spells. It's got BREATH and DEPTH to it as well. That's al.
